The US government say they want democracy and freedom for the Venezuelan people. What they actually want is a government in that supports US interests. Venezuela's economy, democracy, independence and freedom are actively being scuttled to achieve that. The safety and welfare of the people are also expendable to Washington.

The whole thing Venezuela was that the government nationalized the oil industry. In the early 1970s about the time of oil embargo to the USA by OPEC. foreign-owned companies were told that when their leases ran out, they needed to vacate the property, all plant and equipment stayed with the land. Land leases are routinely done this way, improvements revert to the landowner when the lease runs out. But the foreign oil companies are still fuming and this administration is owned by the fossil fuel industry they want that oil back in private hands. They want to rip off the citizens of Venezuela of their rightful ownership. The USA is a preditor.
