This is why we stan his father. He never once treated his son differently because he was gay. He was supportive about it and even let his son know nothing bad was going to happen and tried giving Matthew hope that all that his mom needed was some time to process this and that she could come around to the idea.

Even when he gave hints that talking with people on that kind of level isn’t really his specialty since he left that for his wife to handle with his kids and when he was made aware that his son needed to talk he listened and did try to help. I personally found that really cute and wholesome even if it did seem like he wanted to get off the conversations I think it’s because like I said earlier that he’s not good with this kinda of thing and because maybe he also wanted to bring a happier topic like a good show so his son didn’t think about his fears of being disowned. Either way he has a really nice dad 👌🏻

I hate Mathew's mother sfm. She had her little gay friend for as long as she wanted and then she realizes her son is not a plaything but an actual human being with own emotions and thoughts, and then dupms him. Great mother, awesome.

When Matthew came out to his traditional manly man of a dad and all he said was "I know, I drove you to tap classes" and didn't once question or invalidate him made me tear up bad, dispite his dad openly saying he's not good with emotional talks he still made sure Matthew knew he had his love and support even if his mom wasn't on the same page

My Favorite Season 4 Scene from Big Mouth has to be Matthew and Maury crying the pain away together, I know it’s a short tearjerker/heartwarming moment, but it reminds me of the ending scene from episode 9 of Season 1 where Andrew and Maury cried the pain away together because Missy dumped Andrew, and also, the scene with Matthew and Maury crying together and the other scene with Andrew and Maury crying together made me realize that Maury is not only the funniest Big Mouth character and The Best Hormone Monster in Big Mouth, Maury is The Most Humane, Relatable and Realest Character in Big Mouth because he has that “Best Father Figure” Side to him and he can understand anyone’s emotion, like if Andrew and Matthew are not OK and they feel they want to cry the pain away, Maury’s gonna understand how they feel and he wants to share his pain and tears with them

The fact that his father was more understanding really got me in the feels. I'm a transmasculine demi/pansexual and I came out to my mother several years back. She immediately accepted me for who I am, and embraced this side of me I was ashamed of revealing. It gave me confidence to tell my father... And he still hasn't been understanding. It's been over five years since I first came out..
