Gear used to make this video :

In this video I talk about the BMPCC6K PRO and more specifically about using it as a documentary camera.

I have recently shot 2 short documentaries with it and I thought I would share my thoughts and my experience as I originally did not intend to use the 6K Pro for this type of work.
I also discuss its pros and limitations and how it compares to the regular 6K for doco projects in my opinion.

Hopefully this is helpful to you guys.

Let me know if you have any questions :).

Cheers,
Flo

Always love your videos! I’d love to see what you could do with an even more all-in-one documentary camera, like the Arri Amira.

Always putting out great content! You inspired me to make my first documentary.
6K pro as my A Cam, EOS R as my B Cam.
I have the interview and story ready now I just need a bit more b roll. I just hope my interviewee is ok with single digit weather haha

I have a BMPCC4K and a BMPCC 6K Pro. I use the 6k Pro primarily for documentary work and the 4K as a B cam for shooting the interviews. I came from shooting with Panasonic LUMIX GH5S (and other GHx models) so I had built a set of MFT lenses over time which is why I got the 4K and I have the usual sigma 18-35 for the 6K Pro. Im still getting used to it but I like it.

Great video, and I have both cameras and I agree with what you’re saying about documentary work where you need to be more run and gun or more discrete with a smaller package, especially if outdoors and that means the pro is the better idea. Secondly, if it’s going to be more of a static interview/documentary, then the 6K rigged up is certainly a great option.

As always, I appreciate your insights here and sharing your work.

i'd Choose the 6k Pro, for rigged out I'd go with my Zcam if I need to add batteries and a monitor and a cage I think the ergonomics make less sense. Though I think i'd prefer the grip and the evf. Did you know tilta make an EVF relocator for rigs? may be useful for yourself to give the best of both worlds and I am pretty sure the small rig cage allows the grip to be added. I was wondering your thoughts on the Rode video mic 2, maybe you have a video on it. I actually think a video on sound would be very cool too, how you capture etc. Great video again Flo and thanks.

Hi, when would you choose to use a matte box vs go without one? I’m thinking doc work specifically. I have a matte box but wondering if you find it draws too much attention in urban spaces?

Thank you for this video. When using the Canon EF 16-35mm with image stabilization -- do you notice any impact on battery life from the image stabilization? About to embark on a 10 day backpacking trip with my 6K Pro and the Canon EF 16-35mm, and curious if this will be an issue at all. Thank you!

Good stuff bro! Been thinking of getting a 6K for our studio b cam to our Ursa but putting it off just in case BMD put out another pocket in 2023 😂

Thanks for the review. It's a great doc camera, wouldn't last 3 months on a real movie set due to its overuse of plastic and wacky XLR inputs but it's still great for docs. Iove this cheap option vs a 10k version.
Now I can afford to.shoot with 2 for the price of one. My audience has no idea and frankly either do the professionals. If the image looks beautiful than it's a success.

Great and beautiful content. I checked your gear list in the description. Could you please tell us which gimbal you used for the 6K Pro when shooting your sister in her bicycle? Thank you!!

I just got the ursa G1. I knew about the downsides compared to the g2 but i got it for a steal of a price 1700 and it works perfectly fine. I would love to hear your experience using that camera as a documentary camera because my rig is insanely heavy. Would you recommend that lower gen camera today?

I use the 6k Pro for documentary work. I moved over from a Canon C300 which is also a Great camera for docs.

Finally a BM camera, that could be actually used without a ton of accessories even if not perfect even then =D but surely - this one finally is very interesting for me!
