Hubble Deep Field images had a profound impact on me. Personally, it was so freeing. Why stress about things you can’t control and don’t matter? Just enjoy your short, insignificant life. The one thing that frustrates me is this anti science crap going on. It’s so disrespectful and ungrateful. Instead of thanking your predecessors for medical science that more than doubled our life spans, technology that enables you to watch any movie, song or documentary, FaceTime your family on the other side of the planet, etc., these people just dismiss it as “fake “. Well, I thank all the scientists, engineers, doctors, nerds and geeks . Thank you and keep up the good work.

I remember back when Hubble was launched and in our office we had a “pool” with people naming the system that would cause it to fail. I didn’t want to appear bias towards anyone’s hard work so I added a New category that wouldn’t “step on anyone’s toes”, I betted on the Mirror being the wrong shape . . . . Doh 😖, it turned out to be the worst ever bundle of cash I ever had the displeasure of winning, BUT it did have a silver lining cos I choose this bet thinking that it was the one thing that would doom the telescope, there could be no repair or fix for such a balls up, thankfully I was wrong about this and Hubble was rescued and as we all know went on to educate us about the Universe .
I’ve never took part in other form of office “banter betting” ever again .

When I first heard about hubble as a kid I did not fully understand what wonders it would bring us, now at 31 years of age it has brought so much new knowledge of the universe that I have been mindblown and went into amazing speculations which has always kept what seems like a big looming depression at bay. I still remember when Hubble was launched - I was i n my 20ies & super-excited about what had been promised as observation results with Hubble. However, my expectations were exceeded a hundred times over the next decades, as Hubble stunned all of us with its observations - very remote galaxies, pillars of the earth, gravitational lensing, the very deep field images etc. etc. And it is still going strong, although it should have croaked years n years ago - maybe old-school's technology is more rugged than we think. But it will be super-exciting as well to see the James Webb telescope go up into space and work in conjunction with Hubble; hopefully all goes well and we can have a good look at the origin of space and time. Fingers crossed...
