The Rudest POTA Activator that I have ever encountered

Never have I ever encountered such a misguided POTA activator before.

Yes, a POTA activator can run their activation any way they want to, but to call other activators "bad guys" is another thing. That crosses the line.

What happened happened. That cannot be changed now.

Unfortunately, if you search for the activator's call sign on YouTube, you will find a long history of very bad behavior from this amateur radio operator. People like this are a problem in our beloved hobby.

ALL amateur radio operators world-wide need to know the DX CODE OF CONDUCT. It was meant for DX contacts, but it really applies to ALL aspects of amateur radio (DXing, contesting, POTA, SOTA, Field Day, special events, etc...). DON'T BE AN ALPHA HOTEL!

I am not affiliated administratively with the Parks On The Air organization, but a happy participant in the POTA program.

Q: What is Parks On The Air?
A: Parks On The Air (or POTA) for international portable amateur radio (ham radio) operations that promote emergency awareness and communications from national/federal and state/provincial level parks.

There are activators and there are hunters. Activators go into POTA approved parks, set up their amateur radio equipment and call CQ (CQ is an invitation for any amateur radio operators listening on that frequency to respond and make contact). Hunters will contact the activators and upon a successful contact, the activator puts the hunter into their logs that will be uploaded to calling area representatives who will then upload those logs to the POTA system. Hunters do not need to upload any logs.

Also, he didn't hurt my feelings or did I take it personally. He just ticked me off. He obviously has a mental disorder. As stated in the video, he'll never be in my log ever again.

About two years ago after hearing him calling CQ on 10m for months, I decided to answer his CQ. After several attempts without response, he eventually answered and started accusing me of getting in his frequency. I told him I was answering his CQ and he continued to tell me that what I was doing was “illegal” and he would be notifying the authorities. I told him to please do it and simply changed frequencies. I have not responded to his CQs since. One time was enough.

Last year, I was trying to work a DXpedition on 10m and he started calling CQ on top of them. I told him that the frequency was in use and he claimed, in his usual dreadful manners, that he had been using the frequency for hours, which was not the case, and started his recorded CQ call.
I could not work the DX that day.

I wonder if his calling CQ on 10m without answering calls can be considered “broadcasting” or “one-way communications”, which is not permitted under the CFR Part 97.113.b.

That's the "Squirrel Man" aka the 10m beacon. Normally he just auto calls CQ over and over... Just use him for a 10m beacon if anything. 73, W6IWN

Sorry to hear that you had to deal with this dork. I had a run in with this guy back in the fall when 10m opened up. Answered his CQ and his response was "We don't talk to Canadians, had enough of them in my log book" I have also heard myself the guy will just have his CQ recorded and just on repeat; others will try to answer his CQ but his recorded CQ just keeps on going.

I read the rules for 10-10 INT. not long ago. It said if you contact him and log him for 10-10, they will NOT give you credit for his callsign in the logs. The only one I ever heard of that got kicked out of 10-10.
Also heard someone imitating the way he calls CQ on 28.425... That p*ssed him off. He kept saying "That's MY callsign, STOP saying it", I don't condone people QRMing, but I couldn't help but laugh.

I knew who you were going to talk about during the intro 🤣 I really question if he’s actually in Parks at all sometimes cause his signal strength and sound of his transmission is always the same. I’ve never came across him when he was being like that but have heard plenty from others. But yep the “10m beacon”

I responded to his auto call on 10m. He told me if I didn’t run a KW he wasn’t interested in a contact with me. I laughed at him and spun the VFO.

I have a very hard time believing that bottom dweller has activated as many parks as many times as his POTA profile claims. I’m also shocked that he hasn’t been booted from POTA for his behavior.

Update : i received an actual email from the Sandy springs office that said his case is actually being investigated as we speak. I'm actually shocked.

I had my own set of bad experience with this operator, he did the exact same thing with me and did not let me log the SO and simply went back to calling CQ. This guy really doesn't know how to operate. He's been doing this for MONTHS, and I mean MONTHS.

All I had to do was hear the voice, and I knew immediately who you were dealing with. I haven't heard him doing POTA before, but I've heard him on 28.425 as others have mentioned. The one QSO I've had with him, he had slurred speech, and sounded like he'd thrown back a few too many. He's a real tool. Shake it off; he's not worth your energy.

I've had him on more than one occasion yell at me to shut up when replying to his POTA CQ but at the same time won't respond to my callsign. I really want to know how he decides who to respond to.
