Scalability and Cost Analysis for Cloud-Based Software Architectures, with Ian Gorton – Codecamp_The Architecture Day 2020

Architects of cloud-based systems have a bewildering choice of services to choose from to deploy their applications. Services are high configurable and the default platform settings are rarely optimal for an application’s workload. As applications scale, carefully choosing parameter settings can provide increased processing capacity while controlling costs. In this talk, Ian describes an approach architects can take to explore parameter spaces for a service and illustrate this with the results of a study for a Google Cloud Platform application.

Ian Gorton - Professor and Director of Computer Science

Ian is basically a software {architect, researcher, engineer}. He works on a whole range of projects, from foundational, empirical software architecture research to designing distributed architectures for client applications and initiating process improvements in software engineering organizations. Since obtaining his PhD in 1988, he's worked in academia, industry (Microsoft, IBM) and Government-funded R&D labs (CSIRO, PNNL, NICTA). "I guess I must enjoy the variety!"
