Jeff Golub RIP Dead 2015 - On The Beach

On The Beach is from the Jeff Golub 2002 album Do It Again. On Jan. 1, the blues-rock-jazz guitarist Jeff Golub, died following a lengthy illness that left him blind and physically impaired. He was 59 years old.

Having experienced a series of setbacks, Jeff Golub has retired from live appearances after an illness rendered him unable to perform jazz guitar. While gradually losing his eyesight since June 2011, which was the effect of a collapsed optic nerve, he also unveiled a deeper seated and more obscure sickness: Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, PSP is characterized as a rare brain disorder that causes serious and progressive problems with control of gait (walking) and balance, along with complex eye moment and thinking problems. It continues on to say that the inability of certain eye movements derives from lesions on the brain. Mood and behavior, thus, are also affected.

But we will remember Jeff Golub for his contributions to music rather than his disease. A celebrated guitarist, he has worked with a laundry list of acts including Billy Squier, Rod Stewart Ashford and Simpson, Alphonse Mouzon, Kirk Whalum, Mindi Abair, Everette Harp, Peter Wolf, John Waite, Vanessa Williams, Gato Barbieri, Bill Evans, Rick Braun, Tina Turner, Dar Williams, Brian Culbertson, Gerald Albright, Henry Butler and more. He also released a string of bestselling solo albums as a smooth jazz band leader.

Having started his recording career as a member of Billy Squier's band, Jeff Golub poured his electric coloring onto several of Squier's hits on Capitol records.

Jeff Golub's final album, made with keyboardist Brian Auger, Train Kept A Rolling, was inspired by an incident of him falling onto the subway tracks and being dragged by a train. Luckily, the accident left him unscathed.

Have every CD he ever released and first time since met him was a music cruise on the Hudson around summer 2011. He signed my CD and we chatted a bit. He was extremely gracious and down to earth. Next time we met was at the Rehobeth Jazz Festival a couple of years later at a really chilled out, small lounge and he had list his sight by then but was still the same, gracious human I met earlier. He performed immaculately. I've been playing guitar for about 10 years and he is one of my major influences and the king of "bends" in my book. Rest on my brother. Your music lives on....

I just bumped into this post looking to see some of his YouTube videos. I am sad and disappointed at the same time. Sorry to see you go Jeff. You are one of my favorite jazz guitarists.

On the beach is where I called out to Jehovah one night, to find for me a decent woman in order for me to marry. For all the others had proven to be worthless. Other than for my first Love, Sherie Richmond. Who was taken away in an automobile accident by an average American who could hardly drive a pencil.
Is why I love this song. And so Love Jeff Golub resting in peace. Not floating on some stupid cloud in heaven. And certainly not burning in some mythical "hell" devised by false Christians.

I met him once at Manny's Music in NYC. He was trying out a Strat and we talked about EMG's and how they sounded cool on a Strat. He said that was his dream guitar. Really nice guy. No attitude. The only star I met there. I told him I saw him with Billy Squire and that he rocked. He said thank you. This was before I took Manny's to court and won a judgement against them. I'm glad they are gone. Horrible lot. Unless you were a star. But I'm glad I got to meet Jeff and chat. 8)

One of my top ten all time favorite modern jazz hits.
RIP...Resting In Peace is Jeff Golub. NOT floating around on some cloud in Heaven, and certainly not burning in some mythical "Hell" as creepy "Christians" say exists. Nope! Resting in peace. Sleeping, just as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said concerning the dead.

Interesting that his passing is not even noted on his website, and here it is over a year now since he passed on.
