Another tip: After you remove the old strings, line the tuners up so the holes are parallel to the neck. Makes it easier to thread the strings through the tuners by making them easier to access as you go along.

The few times I have tried I screwed it up royally. End up cutting them too short or too long, bent strings and very bad wind on the spool ! And then I have to buy a whole new package because i screwed up one or two strings! Thanx

For those of a particular mindset, I trim the old strings by the nut.
The long section with the "ball" make for handy survival snares.
