In 2015, a fire at Bucharest’s Colectiv club leaves 27 dead and 180 injured. Soon, more burn victims begin dying in hospitals from wounds that were not life-threatening. Then a doctor blows the whistle to a team of investigative journalists. One revelation leads to another as the journalists start to uncover vast health care fraud. When a new health minister is appointed, he offers unprecedented access to his efforts to reform the corrupt system but also to the obstacles he faces. Following journalists, whistle-blowers, burn victims, and government officials, Collective is an uncompromising look at the impact of investigative journalism at its best.

The most depressing moment in the documentary is not when they finally uncover how rotten the institutions are, but they're realization they entire system is so broke that there is in fact no mechanism in place to even go about fixing those problems...

Happened again.Hospital "Matei Bals" in Bucharest on fire this morning with 5 deads.When all this will ever end? When justice will be done for the dead ones, for their families, for the injured ones, those who remained with scars and burns for life?? Never ending corruption!

It was heartbreaking, it's not like a movie where the good guys win... they even managed to make the good guys look like corrupt. I just wanted to give the young ex-minister guy a hug while I watching this.

As I watched this I couldn't help but think of our very own government ministers and the public funds they have somehow given to their mates during the pandemic with seemingly little scrutiny. We can be shocked at what happened in romania, but we are not so very far from the apple tree ourselves - I saw this film really as a warning for us all.

Damn... I'm glad there comes more focus on this topic with this documentary and the oscar nomination is well deserved. I had no idea this was going on. I hope you get a better and less corrupt health care system soon, even though it sounds like a tough nut to crack.

Isn’t just Romania. Corruption is in all countries. I live in Brazil, it’s a reality for all us, everyday. We live like part of cotidiano.
We had a tragedy in a ballad, and government did the same thing. Lies. Liars.
