Pastel Fixative Spray - ONLY spray these pastel papers

Should you use pastel fixative spray for pastel pencil drawings? Yes...and no.
You should only spray certain papers, but not pastelmat. Spraying pastelmat paper can stain the paper and I have ruined drawings by spraying them.

Hi, Thank you for this valuable information.
Do you think a fixative can be useful to prevent wax bloom on coloured pencils artwork ?

Hello Emily,
I am going through all your pastel videos as I find them extremely useful, informative and easy to understand. When I eventually finish a piece of art work and am happy enough to frame it, which is the best fixative spray to use please ? Should you always spay fixative on a finished art work ? (Except on the one you stated in the video !)
Plus, is it worth paying for that special glass that stops the suns rays from fading the art work, or should I just stick to regular glass ? Thanks for any answers you can give.
Also thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with us lesser artistic mortals, and helping us stop making the mistakes that you went through, and saving us time and money, and letting us learn faster, it's very much appreciated.

This is timely. I just found out yesterday that spraying fixative on Sennelier pastel card is a pretty bad idea. I was in the middle of a portrait and the color was just disappearing. I'm not sure if it was just slowly flaking off or what - I wasn't touching it at all. I decided to spray a fixative on it hoping to stop it and the textured part of the paper just lifted up and started, for the lack of a better term, melting off the backing.

Thank you very much! I’m a beginner and am using pastemal now with panpastel and pastel Pitt. I need to bring a drawing on a plane so I can offer it as a gift to a friend. I was going to fix it to make sure it stays ok. How would you package your drawing so everything is okay when I arrive to destination? Thank you!!

Thanks for this information! I am new to pastels and love learning. Now, I will trash fewer drawings. I hope. Maybe. I'm still learning. 😂

Well, I could use a fixative. I have a few things that need to be fixed😝 Like my neck, back, etc.😝

I respectfully disagree. Fixative changes color and darkens on any surface. It destroys the luminosity of pastel. Most pastel painters do not use it. Frame it under glass with a mat.
