There's no way or no filter I have seen yet that accurately simulates CRT on an LCD.

No me parece la mejor comparativa que se pueda hacer, en CRT a parte de difuminar efectos como el dithering, la nitidez, scanlines y suavidad de contornos manda, para nada se ve borroso como en el video.

Cuando tengo conectadas frente a frente un LCD vs TRC, en consola, en el TRC/CRT se ve una imagen mas nitida, suave, natural y viva que en el LCD, en el LCD los pixeles de los juegos son demasiado notorios, con muchisimo jagging, carecen de scanlines...no se siente una imagen para nada natural en baja definición, en los TRC eso no pasa, se ajustan y se siguen viendo geniales, quien sea joven y no haya jugado nunca en TRC con buenos cables y esté acostumbrado a jugar en LCD, le recomiendo que pruebe en un verdadero buen televisor TRC, sus ojos no creeran lo bien que se ven las consolas clasicas ;)

You made the video, thanks! Good games for this kind of comparison are Garfield and Eartworm Jim 1&2 because they make heavy use of dithering.

I have my Sega Genesis (actually a TecToy Megadrive II) modified to s-video output and stereo sound. It makes a huge difference compared to regular composite cables, if you still have a CRT tv with s-video input. Composite looks fine on smaller (21 or less inches) TVs, but on bigger TVs (29 or more inches) it looks blurry.

Older gaming consoles made in the 90's look best when played on a CRT-TV in my opinion. Nothing wrong with playing the retro compilations that are on modern consoles on an HDTV though.

You can simulate this on RetroArch by using one of the dithering options gdapt or mdapt shaders.

If dithering could be somehow fixed, having an lcd wouldn't be such a bad thing. Of course it's 2022 now... we got stuff like the RetroTink5x out.

At this point I wish people were doing videos on making lcd's look better than crt's. It is entirely possible now.

I might be one of those guys who prefer playing on a LCD since its much sharper than a CRT specifically for objects in the distance

But i will agree that crts are the way to go for odd resolution like old computer from the 486, early pentium era and 8 bit hardware

Fica uma bosta jogar consoles antigos numa TV moderna, os pixels ficam estourados, mesmo sendo em uma tela de led ou lcd pequena como por exemplo, uma tela de 14". E como a maioria dos jogos eram em resolução interpolada, dá para ver nitidamente as linhas verticais na tela.

E o jeito correto de se jogar o Mega ou outros sistemas que usam o Dithering em TV CRT, sem isso o jogo perdera vários efeitos de transparência por exemplo.

I made a S-Video mod for my SEGA md2 and pluged in to CRT JVC videomonitor 17 inches and got a such a pure and clear picture which I never received before even from scart. The colors are the same as a composite but not as in scart (they are different) and the sounds are clear! - no noises but with scart I had some noises (may be only I have noises in scart) in some moments higher or lower but they are!
Now as a retro gamer I prefer CRT video monitors + s-video even in ps1, ps2... and LCD tv or
lcd monitor has a horrible picture and choises as for me :)
