FILM DESCRIPTION:
Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish. The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name. -

This movie is a perfect example of what’s wrong with studio interference. Sometimes it’s not about the filmmakers, but the corporate execs who stick their noses into places where they shouldn’t be.

That thing looks like something you would see in Resident Evil.

Hold up; is she in arctic conditions, dressed in jeans, a vest, and a long-sleeved shirt?

Here’s something I love about rewatching. We find out later that Edvard is assimilated, and there are several moments where he’ll try to get really close to Kate, like he can detect her Protag Powers and is trying to eliminate her. But each time she’s actively doing stuff with other people around so he can never get to her.

In this scene she’s out in the open with a helicopter swarming above her. I like to think that if she hadn’t flagged him down he would have gotten her when she’d go back inside to get on a radio or tell the others. I love it when horror films have moments where you realize that the characters were literally seconds away from dying earlier but in a subtle way.

You know, they were originally going to have an alternate ending to this movie, and were going to do everything with practical effects instead of CGI. But the executives decided against this, and had them change it

What I find really fascinating is how the creature tried to pretend to be the person it copied. Makes you wonder just how smart it is.

And to think while all of this is going on, it's just a normal dull day at U.S. Outpost #31.

Not a bad movie but I think it lacks the claustrophobia of the original

1:45 There was a cut scene where this Thing was actually a practical effect, it looked more realistic and terrifying.

I'll admit this isn't as good as the original but I still found this movie pretty good. It had good suspense.

The thing in the 1982 version only revealed itself when it had no choice . The thing in this just revealed itself for no apparent reason

The face parting was shit my pants scary and well done. Then I just laughed at the resident evil level of schlock of the tentacles.

Why was the thing emotionally supportive to the other guy before it absolutely destroyed him a moment later?

“Don’t worry, hang in there.” Griggs’ last words before transforming into the thing.

1:41 - I guess he had the fish. Never eat the fish dinner, choose the chicken instead. The seas are just too polluted these days. 😖

Honestly this part was what really hurt the film for me. The Thing had no reason to do this because by this point there was no real way to determine who was who.

Writers really dropped the ball here.
