пелевин действительно один из самых достойных современных писателей который представляет и репрезентует нашу постсоветскую культуру для иностранного читателя

Thanks for this introduction to Pelevin, Mark. I have been interested in reading him for a while but have not got round to it. I was thinking of starting with Babylon but you've intrigued me about Snuff. Oh and I like the Factory t-shirt!

Hi, Marc, I really like your channel, you are an intelligent and articulate read. Just one technical suggestion: it would be great if you could install an external microphone to your camera/phone/laptop because the sound is almost none existent, particularly in this videos. Even with headphones on. There are some very affordable options out there that work just fine. Other than that, your videos are just great!

Pelevin has been putting out a book every year. 2013th 3 Zuckerbrins is probably one of his best books since SNUFF. (s.n.u.f.f. was published two years prior to the events of euromaidan).

You're right about Pelevin constantly undercutting himself; but I enjoyed that, especially in the Clay Machine Gun. Snuff sounds rather like Babylon, which I enjoyed too. By the way, , don't you say anything about the Yellow Arrow (his first, I think), or did I just miss that part ? P.S. Perhaps a reader used to writers like Tolstoy and Erofeev would find his discursive, reflective passages more normal than we do.

They are not Orks though, they are Urks. Urka (урка, уркаган) is a criminal cant for a low-life criminal, a sort of a morlock to your elated eloi. The book was published all the way back in 2011, well before the Ukranian crisis, but it certainly predicted it, as well as the role of the high and mighty people in the off-spheres that orchestrated the clash between our two lowly orkish clans.

On the subject of there being little published since, Pelevin publishes a book every single year. It's just, most don't get translated.

You are way too quiet. I have the volume turned up to max and I can barely make out what you are saying.
