Solar-Gasm! Intense Eruption on Sun's Far Side Spotted | Video

An active region over the eastern limb of the Sun exploded plasma into Space. It was not directed towards us, but that active region is moving towards the Earth-facing side of the Sun. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the event on May 1st.

2013 marks the peak of the Sun's 11-year cycle of activity. Its a more turbulent time on the Sun where there is an increase in sunspots and flares. The flares and resulting coronal mass ejections can cause radio interference, glorious auroras, and possibly interfere with power grids, IF they are Earth-directed.

i believe that's what the so called solar cycles predict.. the last peak of solar activity was in 2002 or so, which means that if the average 11 years duration of the solar cycle is respected, this year should be a peak year.
