Have just listened to this song sung by Willie Nelson, and now having listened to this, I have to thank you for it - it's a much nicer version. A singer I had never heard of, it was long before my time. Thank you.

Love Sleepy LaBeef's version with the rarely heard 'lost verse' (Willie Nelson also dropped it for a guitar solo) ...
" now my hair has turned to silver and Ive lived my life in vain. But I can see her star in heaven, blue eyes crying in the rain."

What a great recording! He has a very clear and wonderful voice, and the instruments are great. You can tell where Willie Nelson got his arrangement from. I love this version!

Because I had David Forcier in my life for a few precious years, and his interest in Yodeling (David was a good singer and could yodel too), I became a big fan of Wylie Gustafson. What goes around comes around.

Actually, the 'original' recording was 1945, released by Roy Acuff.
