What other heartbreaking moments can you think of?

Taka's humility towards his opponent and how he still keeps positive energy just shows how great of a person he is. He really is one of the best personalities in my opinion in WRC.

Richard Burns rally GB 2003. final rally, 6 points away from the title but it faded away as he was heading to the rally which turned out to be a brain tumour that would end not only his career but his life 2 years later...

Loved how Ogier went to comfort Tänak after rally loss in Poland.

Tommi Makinen being prevented from getting back to Service by some jobsworth copper after taking the right rear corner off his Evo on Rally GB 1998,

and me accidentally tripping Tommi up whilst I was marshalling in the Service park at Felindre in 2003. His last season when he wore gold boots. I tripped him with a rope barrier coming out of the Media Centre and he ended up on his face in the mud. Fortunately he saw the funny side.

Worst moment by far was Markko Martin after his crash on Rally GB in 2005, in which Michel 'Beef' Park was killed. I was marshalling the next stage and we heard about the accident from a TV crew, then that Beef was dead, then that the rally was cancelled. Markko was devastated.

It was a very long, quiet drive home from South Wales. RIP Mr. Park.

"Trata de arrancarlo, Carlos!!"

R.I.P to both Sainz's 3rd drivers title, and Toyota's constructors title

Great idea for a video, here are my other moments: Mouton went off the fight for the title in '82 Ivory Coast... after the news her father passed away.
Auriol in RAC '92, DNF due to a candle and title lost after a record of wins that year...
Thiry DNF in Tour de Corse '95 that costed him the first win in WRC

As soon as I saw the title, I knew the 1998 British Rally would be in the list 😢
Felt so bad for Carlos Sainz that day!

The Number 1 pick could have been even more heartbreaking. Carlos could have finished the rally and then broke down on the way to final time control

On the same subject. I know the drivers have media commitments but do we have to interview them when these moments happen.

I can still remember that mommnet when Carlos retired at the end of the rally. I was then a little boy and he was my hero. I remeber crying

I still feel for Delecour, a spectacular driver who got his Monte Victories stolen twice. When everybody crowded Delecour, everyone crying, I felt it, I loved all the drivers from the Group A Era, so humane and such loveable Drivers.
Bruno Thiry also had it bad, you really feel for every driver

The "it's too hard" from Ott was tough to hear

The commentator for the 2001 season is such a nostalgia kick; awesome voice!

A few (dis)honorable mentions:
- Oliver Solberg crashing out of Finland 2022 on the first corner of the first (proper) stage
- Evans losing the (probably) last ever WRC Tour de Corse because of a puncture in the Power Stage in 2019
- Tanak losing Rally Sardegna 2019 on the last stage, while leading by 40+ seconds, because of a broken power-steering
- Jari Matti Latvala completely speechless after suffering an incredible crash caused by some bedrock which unexpectedly broke his suspension while leading Rally Argentina in 2016
- Petter Solberg completely deflated at a regroup after suffering yet another mechanical issue to his Subaru back in 2002 - with Colin McRae sitting alongside him in the car, trying to cheer Petter up
- Colin McRae having a brilliant recovery from like 4th to the lead on the last day of Rally Australia 1998, only for the turbo to blow, dropping him out of the podium places and out of the championship fight
- Piero Liatti having to relinquish the 1997 Sanremo win to Colin McRae due to team orders. I still wonder how did David Richards make it out of Italy alive, that day
- Thiry losing its first win in Corsica in 1995 because of a technical issue which they had to try to fix with no mechanics allowed to help them, if I'm not mistaken

- Mouton mathematically losing the 1982 title by retiring from the lead in the Ivory Coast - failing to fulfill the last wish of her father, who had passed away just before the rally started
- Adartico Vudafieri crashing out of the lead in Sanremo 1978 while driving a privateer Lancia Stratos. His great rival, Tony Fassina, would go all the way with the same car the following year, to date he remains the last true privateer to win one of the crown jewels events of the WRC
There are probably many others (excluding all those who failed to finish their last ever stage on this earth...)

After Carlos' heartbreaking moment was made legendary tv-interview with Tommi Mäkinen, when he heard during the interveiw that he is theChampion. Mitäh? (What) asked Tommi on a phone and rest is history.
