Hit a Moose!

So just as I was crawling into bed Donovan called me (and he never calls me) which was my first concern. He said they and someone else together hit a moose. So I jumped back out of bed, and was on route to their accident (30mins) away.

Glad to hear everyone was safe and unharmed, besides the moose. I’m surprised someone didn’t come out and harvest the meat. Some areas will harvest the meat and help feed people in need. Thanks for the videos, Mike.

It’s getting to be that time of year when the wildlife gets moving bad. Lucky that van didn’t scoop the moose up and bring it in the cab with her through the front windshield. Seen that a few times.

Glad everyone is alright. You can always replace equipment, not people. That's why people have insurance.

That is crazy they hit a moose. When mosquitoes are that bad, you know you have to drive slower with high beams on and your head is on a swivel and always travel with a navigator to watch the shoulders and ditches. Moose hate mosquitoes as much as we do and they run down the middle of the road or in the ditches where there are fewer mosquitoes. They also do it in the day when there millions of horse flies attacking them.

Fyi, never, ever say You hit a moose (or deer), always say a moose hit you. Insurance companies love to put blame on the driver and jack up rates, or deny a claim. If a moose hits you, there is nothing you could have done, but if you say you hit a moose, they will blame you.

I am happy to hear everyone is ok. That is some traumatizing crap, they will be thinking of that for a long time.

Their eyes do glow like deer. They never look into the light like deer tho. Hence why they are hard to see

Lucky lady.
Some years ago a friend of my father hit a large dairy cow that ran into the road. Even though he was only driving at 30mph the cow's head came through the windscreen, also luckily for him, on the empty passenger side otherwise he would have been killed.
The cow didn't survive and his car was destroyed.

Hi from oz mike. We have a huge problem with kangaroo's on our roads here just like your deer. The large animals that cause problems are cattle and horses that get out of their paddock (field) and camels in the outback.

Almost 10 years ago my wife and I hit a cow at 90km/h at night in a diesel smart car. Hit it square in the ribs and flipped the cow right up over the car. If we were driving anything else that night the hood would have taken out the legs and the cow would have been in our lap. We were able to walk out and greet the responding police officer. No lasting injuries just some really bad seatbelt bruising that took nearly a month to go away. Be careful out there!

Have to be so careful at night, a friends son was coming home from the lake up by meadow lake provincial park same thing falling a mini van it missed the moose the kid didn't. The cow moose ended up facing forward on the console of his pickup. Somehow neither he or his sister were seriously hurt

The wildlife dept should put reflectors on their animals that live on our land for free.

Swedish cars SAAB was the strongest against moose hits. My friend took a adult male moose head on in a SAAB 900 and walked away.

We were moose hunting in the Peace River area of Alberta. We left the area in the later morning on purpose to get back to Calgary. (We left later to avoid moose.) Nobody wins when a moose is hit. By the way, moose kills are regulated even if a person just hits in while traveling down a highway. Wildlife officers follow the regulations so the moose is usually wasted by the time a person could get the moose for eating. For the person in Australia, a moose is as big as a horse, or bigger. (My hunting friend crawls inside the animal when dressing out a moose. . . . no kidding.) Mike is correct in saying they topple over when hit and then their body ends up inside the vehicle. . . . we also lowered our speed when we left the Peace River area.
