I still play this game on a daily base. It's very addictive and challenging.

He still plays it once a year? Damn, I respect the hell out of that. I don't understand why some people say that a game they played once like 15 years ago is their favorite, that doesn't make sense to me. To me your favorite game should be the one that you can play over and over again and never tire of. That game that you always go back to when you get tired of the new games.

Fans of the game should try openXCOM... it's a modern port that makes easier to run the game on modern systems. It also corrects many bugs from the original game.

This game is also one of my all-time favourites... it could have prevented me from obtaining my college degree, if I had allowed it. The temptation to start it up and play just one more mission is still there, though.

The best part of this is when you find an alien base, and make it your Elerium-115 gold mine throughout the game. Oh joy!!

One of the reasons this game was so brilliant at the time is because the internet wasn't about so information and strategy for the game was found & made by you and your friends.

Also the unknown aspect of each mission was actually pretty scary

I remember one time I was investigating an enemy battleship. Those were awesome. I was unloading my troops from my ship and the aliens sent a blaster bomb right into the middle of my troops and blew them all up. I do not think I even saw an alien yet. I think I rage quit.

I love how the people at IGN who have said stuff have some decent taste (I really enjoy every game they've mentioned in these until now at least) but many people watching are "this is no call of dooty i no like".

This game is amazing. Logged too many hours in playing back in the day. Fun to have a friend spectator too. They will chime in with commentary about what you should try or make comments on your soldier deaths. :D

Definitely one of my favorite games. If you keep shooting down their ships and you hit the turning point where you're on the offensive, the aliens tend to get kinda moody. And start attacking your bases. My favorite thing has to be posting up outside one of the very large space crafts and just hitting end turn over and over until the aliens all walk outside and get shot.
