Filmed on the same run on different days with different skis doing the same thing. Fun carving!

The Orignal + masters GS ski and their SL ski are a lot of fun. The Mod 6G is the GS and the Mod 6S is the SL ski.

if you enjoyed this video I think you will enjoy the slow motion carving in this other video here:

I've watched a lot of skiers in my 45 years of skiing! I haven't found anyone that even comes close to the enjoyment I get watching your videos ( I should have to pay lol ). Great video as always, thank you!!!

long curves are more pleasant to ski on a longer period of time, you use the full width of the track and you have a feeling to cruise smoothly. Short turn will get you tired quicker and get more unstable on degraded snow conditions because of the tighter ski waist you usually have.

Howdy Reilly! Awesome video. I found the slow motion turn [I slowed it down even more] at about 1min40seconds really helpful. You can see that there is absolutely no dead spot or 'ride' in your turn your legs are always doing something. Great visual aid, thanks.

dang there is so much more to skiing than the rentals I get! really looks nice out there

you could mount the boot bindings on oak floor boards and the result would be the same, you would still be better than 90% of skiers

in my opinion, based on what I see on the slopes, the average skier is not humble enough to admit that no high-end ski is suitable for the low speeds and poor lean angles it achieves, with the result that he cannot make them turn

when I realized that I had two skis on my feet that my level did not justify, it was enough for me to rent shorter mid-range skis to improve immediately

Gorgeous skiing as always from Reilly, and terrifically helpful comparison!
Makes we want to get some GS skis for those swooping long turns.
So glad I got an all access pass, by the way.

Your mediumish radius turns where your upper body follows the skis doesn't really show that much difference between the 25m and 13m skis. Where the difference is really apparent is doing short radius turns where the upper body is blocked and always facing down the fall line, and not just having the upper body follow the skis. The 13m skis will carve the whole turn in a short radius turn, whereas the 25m skis will take more time for reverse camber to develop in a short radius turn and steering will be needed at the beginning of the turn and the tails will do carving at the end of the turn.

I call the turns you performed, "club racer turns" as many club racers (i.e. masters racers) ski this type of turn ALL OF THE TIME. They never reach high levels of racing because they don't have proper upper body and lower body separation to make a stivot (Ted Ligety is the master of those GS turns) in the case of tight GS gates, nor the ability to get thru a tight flush in slalom.

I do a lot of ski track inspection where I will do ten turns and stop, and then hike up the hill to look at the tracks. I guarantee in a real short radius turn, slalom and GS skis will have different looking tracks. The 13m skis are stable enough to mimic a medium radius turn that GS skis do. However, for the 13m skis to perform a 25m radius, the skis are not at the same inclination angle nor pressured as much. Otherwise the 13m would "trench" the snow and the radius would be much shorter.

A good video to make would be to show how your tracks can teach you a lot about your skiing. Yes video is important, but to show edge lock and a floating phase there needs to be a ski track inspection. I very rarely see skiers review their ski tracks. The best time and place to do this is the very first run of the day on groomed snow that is virgin and you can't mistake your tracks for other skiers.

Love-it Reilly. These are my 2 goto lengths for carving - a 13m Volkl Racetiger in a 170 (non-FIS ski) & a 25m Blizzard 184 (FIS ski). As a new skier 5 years ago, but a hockey player my entire life, it took me a few years to build up the skill to carve these skis from top to bottom, but I've fallen in love with the 25m FIS GS ski - so stable & smooth - I now find it an easy task to just let the ski carve and feel my inside hand just above the snow. We are similar sizes so I just see you in my head doing it as my model. Great video

Dear Reilly,

this was an information I waited so long for. Great idea! Thank you! I think it gives a good impression for all the peope who are in the decision making process for a new ski. I myself for example am reluctant to invest the money to lend different type of skis, which of course would be also an alternative.

Alas, By the way the permanend increase of the ticket prices in the (Austrian) ski resorts are causing more and more trouble for me. And in the smaller ski resorts, which are more affordable my sporting demands are not sufficiently met. It is a pity since I love this also believe it is a sport you have to do regularly in order to reduce the injury risks at least if one has sporting

Thank you and keep well!

I suggest to make a comparison between FIS SL 165cm, FIS GS 193cm and options between, RC about 180cm?

Exact same except for turn radius. Skis must move further apart on tightest part of these turns.

Awesome skiing.
I'm trying to get the differences here:
- obviously bigger / smaller radii turns
- physics question 1: is the angular speed the same for both skies?
- physics question 2: is the rate of descent in altitude the same for both skies?

Besties,

Reilly, what do you find more challenging to skill blending, short turns on long skis, or long turns on short skis? 🤔

Nice skiing. I've never skied a on a GS (only SL). What's the difference in the feeling and performance?

What is your one quiver ski (make, model, underfoot, plus length) for skiing inbounds (including trees and bumps) for normal non powder conditions? What is your height and weight? Please recommend one ski for which you are not sponsored.

Hi Reilly, amazing carving technics. Surprisinlyg that you can control both radius so perfectly!

I want to buy a pair of skis to practice carving, take lessons, and join ski instructor exams. Do you think a SL skis would work?
I am chossing between Rossignol Hero Elite Carve and Hero Elite SL. Both in 167cm or 172 cm. Which one do you recommend?
