reach for the stars, kid.

lyrics! (also available via closed captions)
i used to watch planes flying at night, confuse them for stars
and we'd hang out in your backyard
and you said, "this world will chew you up and spit you out
so we better find a new one"

you'd sit alone in the lunch hall drawing pictures of spaceships
you never gave up on shooting stars
you worked nights at the planetarium
sleeping under constellations

and you went to school, got your degree
pretty soon you'd joined the european space agency
and thinking back, other kids, they made fun of you
if they could see you now
if they could only see you now

i remember that smile on your face when you told me the news
6 months on the ISS, you'd be lifting off next june
and although you weren't in space yet
i could swear that you were floating off the ground

now i'm in a plane, Kazakhstan bound
to wait for the Soyuz capsule to touch down
and though i'm flying 4,000 miles away
it feels like i'm going home
like i'm going home
like i'm going home

[instrumental break]

now i'm in a plane, Kazakhstan bound
and i can't wait to hear your stories as we drive back to town
and though i'm flying 4,000 miles away
it feels like i'm going home
like i'm going home
like i'm going home

this is probably one of my favourites of the videos you've uploaded. I've loved every one but this one is just so adorable. the lyric "and although you weren't in space yet / i could swear that you were floating off the ground" is just so great. excellent work!!!

Hello Ian, I would like to present your beautiful music "Flying to karaganda" in my channel to my audience.
I have already introduced several Kazakhstan cities to my channel.
Now I present the city of Karaganda so your music would fit in very well here.
Of course I will mention your channel in the description. If you disagree, please let me know. Greetings from Austria. Johann Langgartner
