Aha! Now I can use some of the more complex cookie cutters that I have. Thank you for the tip. Got to try this next time my granddaughter comes to visit. Thanks!

You are a lifesaver!! I was struggling my way through a batch of Linzer cookies - the first ones were terribly deformed. The second ones were much easier.

A wonderful trick I just figured out before even seeing this video is to take a ball of dough, flatten using your hands, place flattened dougn on parchment paper sized to fit your cookie sheets, place a 2nd piece of parchment paper (same size) on top, continue to flatten the dough by pressing/smoothing with your hands on the top piece of parchment paper, use your roller on the top piece of parchment paper to roll to desired depth, remove the top piece of paper, use your cutouts to cut as many cookies as you can fit on the flattened dough, remove all of the excess dough between the cutout shapes (may need to use a knife for finer areas), slide the entire sheet of parchment paper with the cookies on it onto the cookies sheet, bake, remove from oven and slide the entire parchment paper with baked cookies onto cooling rack. Then you can decorate while they are still on the parchment paper but cooled. To make the next batch, flip what was previously the top piece of parchment paper over to use as the bottom piece for the next batch. Absolutely ZERO flour needed during the entire process which keeps the dough from drying out as you reuse the scraps! It's so easy to make cutouts this way, I wish I had thought of it decades ago!

I didn't know about using powdered sugar on the cookie cutters. I will have to try that the next time I make cookies.

What can I use instead of the wax paper? They don't sell it in Brazil.

I had already made my dough and it's been in the fridge for about 4 hours now. I just seen your video and wanted to know if I can still roll the dough between wax paper if I already chilled it?

We didn't have any dowels so we used pencils! It works just as well.

I had a problem making sugar cookies until i saw your video and maybe this will help me a lot. Can you please tell me why my sugar cookies shrink while baking it in the oven? Some of them were in perfect shape while some of them got smaller or deformed. And until now i am searching for the answer. Thank you!

Used Pillsbury roll cookie dough for Christmas cookies, cut came out perfect from cookie cutter but they didnt keep there shape . I can't lie I rolled the dough out so it would be be thick cookie not thin but I think that made them all come out like one big cookie. Please help my daughter was so disappointed, thank you

Unfortunately, doesn’t work at all for my grandmother’s 1800s recipe, which requires rolling dough thinly. Total disaster. Back to using lot’s of flour on surface and rolling pin.
