Okay so, I did a rescue on a snail in my garden 😅 his shell was cracked so I repaired it with eggshell (it's a thing! lol) and it was super stressed and as a stress response they buzz and foam out slime like crazy! So I am inclined to believe they do intentionally stress them to collect more mucin.

I use the Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence and they do say on their website that the snails are placed over a mesh in a quiet, dark room and left to roam freely, leaving their mucin behind. I don’t know anything about how snails live or how one might care for or feed a snail but I do like that Cosrx seems to care for the well-being of the snails they use for their product. The website also says that no external pressure is applied to force mucin production.

that same brand also has a mucin toner (yam) and isntree released their yam line which is also apparently similar. some more vegan options for those who need them ^^

im not going to lie, as a snail lover who knows lots about snails and has had hundreds of snails of my own, snails produce WAY more mucus when they are scared, leading me to believe that the companies would not choose the “kinder” option because of how much less profitable it would be

Finally someone called all the "cruelty free" claims of snail mucin which research doesn't really back and it seems a lot of hogwash to me. People need to do their own research before believing these claims. Thank you for this! As a person following a vegan and cruelty free lifestyle, your content is really helpful for me.

I'm LOVING the Vegreen serum. It's even got peptides (plus copper peptide!) in it. And a much more pleasant application than snail mucin.

Thank you for this!! I’m an ethical
Vegan too and no way could I intentionally wear animal byproducts like that that came from harming any sentient beings. I’m excited to give that product and vegan brand a try ❤🙏🏼

And considering the fact that some people can get allergic reaction from snail mucin.. that's a great option..
Bless you 💚🌱

Omg you literally read my mind, Cass. I was actually wanting to ask you about phyto mucins from yams.

I do know that the way the brand CosRX collects it is in like a dark room and they just move around on mesh and it is said that they are happy. Wether this is true or not is still not 100% true but also it is said that if they weren’t happy then the quality would be bad

Yay! I feel THE SAME WAY, with the same doubts/concerns regarding just how “cruelty-free” snail mucin actually is. Ethical vegan as well. I will certainly check this (truly) cruelty-free vegan alternative out. Thank you!
