Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that combines biology, computer science, mathematics, and statistics to analyze and interpret biological data.

In this video we'll take a look at some of the different types of data and files commonly used in bioinformatics and computational biology. We'll discuss the various types of "omics" data that typically form part of biological analyses, and the specific file formats associated with them, including FASTA, FASTQ, BAM, SAM, VCF, BCF, GFF, GTF and BED files. We'll give an overview of what each of these files look like and what kind of data they typically store.
