I don’t think people truly realize just how terrifying “it went by like we were standing still” is. Imagine you, as a P-51 pilot, flying the greatest in piston engine technology, sailing along at damn near close to 400mph. And then this… *thing* comes by and easily rockets past you and your fighter/bomber group. Like it was nothing. I can’t imagine what these guys were feeling as they saw it.

Incredible plane. I would absolutely love to see one upclose. Truly fascinating how desperation pushed the Germans to field certain weapons - some worked, some did not - but boy did the Me 262s work
