The pipes are for cooling purpose. It is called water cooling system. Water enters in the pipe from bottom and gets out from side. Otherwise the boat will heatup intensively as there are no ventilation ports.

If your into Rc like myself who build and work on my own rigs you'd know the parts hes using are actually pretty inexpensive comparatively speaking. He's using a 30$ motor and the Motor"S" on my miss Gico are more then a 100$ each. Most expensive parts are probably the battery. I'm gonna take his design to the next level. Really great video!

the stress points are not reinforced.
just stick few cm2 of wood in the right places where it's need the most, like where spars join the wood or at the corners
