I really don’t get how you could look at Samus’s entire backstory and say she’s trans, aside from desperately trying to claim a character as one of you for nothing more than brownie points!

Strong female woman? No must be trans. Twitter being ridiculous as always, erasing one group for the sake of ‘’upliflting’’ some other group 🤦‍♂️. Anyway hope yall have an awesome day and hope Twitter people figure out how to raise people up without degrading others

(Late heart pls Hei?)

Reminder that representation DOESN'T matter. Relatability does. 👍

Wasn't there a whole situation years ago where someone (or some people) edited Samus's Wikipedia page to say she is trans and adding points to prove that she was trans, with the whole idea unsurprisingly being shot down and the page being locked from normal editors?

Here is some context if your unaware of the metroid debate.
For people who dont know, there was a thing in the original metroid manual that stated that samus was a dude but the team said something along the lines of "hey, would be funny if the person behind the suit is actually a women" so the team when with that, but left the manual unchanged, for the big surprise.

When I was a kid, I read a ton of YA books about lady knights, mages, and other fantasy heroines who were treated as normal and default by the narrative. It was a huge and formative experience for me and I'm grateful to have been able to read those books. Likewise grateful for all the lady video game characters who just did their thing and weren't treated as weird or reduced to gender and nothing else.

A few years ago, one of the authors from a series that meant a huge amount to me tried to retroactively claim that one of her lady knight characters wasn't a real girl because she wasn't traditionally feminine. She had to be non-binary instead.

As a kid, I wore a home made tinfoil knight costume on halloween partly because of that character, and it mattered to me that I wasn't less allowed because I was a girl. That character existing as a girl went a long way toward encouraging that. She went through rites of passage and coming of age stuff tailored around growing up and into her body as a ciswoman. The idea that she was embodying strength in her own way and wasn't less mattered. It feels like by trying to appropriate that, it's trying to crush and take away a character who meant so much to me and others like me. The situation with Samus is similar.

If you have physical strength and can hold your own in battle, if you're tall, if you aren't traditionally feminine enough, you aren't a real woman to these people. It's the same as the hyper conservative women who say you're not a real woman if you can't have kids or aren't a housewife or whatever. I do not have enough middle fingers to flip.

I have no problem with characters being made that are trans, but I have a huge problem with taking existing away characters from ciswomen for that and trying to shove women into a stereotype. It says that if you are born and comfortable with your body then you're barred from certain personalities, behaviors, roles, etc.

Samus isn't trans...she's a tall, muscular mommy, duh!

She's not 6'3" out of her armor. That figure comes from an English edition Nintendo Power issue. The Japanese one makes it clear that is her height in her armor. One writer said Samus was a "newhalf", which is a derogatory term, and in the context of the interview in question, is abundantly clear he was not honestly saying Samus was anything other than a woman.

They're just outright lying.

Samus is a freaking biological woman, I've played games with her since the 90s

The one and only way that Samus Aran used to be a man is that they decided on her character halfway through the original Metroid. The player character didn't even have a proper name at this point, but was presumed to be a man by default. At some point, series co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto went, "Hey! You know what'd be cool? If we surprised players at the end of the game!" and the rest is history. Samus Aran was born exactly as she has always been; a badass human woman who was turned into a space amazon by an alien-bird blood transfusion.

I remember seeing something like this on Crappy Games Wiki where it was titled "Samus is Trans, deal with it!" and I imagine them reaching for a pair of sunglasses like they prove a point only for them to grab Groucho Marx Glasses and never noticing.

Samus: a normal everyday girl who got traumatized so bad by a purple fire breathing alien dragon, adopted in by bird alien people, and decided the best course of action is to go out and defend the universe so that no one else should suffer her pain, now known as the strongest woman in the galaxy.

That person: oh boy trans representation

Got to love all these people that are like "Women can be strong and independent and don't need to conform to gender roles". Then immediately turn around and say "that women doesn't confirm to gender roles clearly they are trans".

Samus is a strong female lead done right. She's clearly influenced by Sigourney Weaver in the Alien movies.
