Curious who sets up the maps in these videos. I couldn’t help but notice the Aztec one had a vil getting sheep between 2 relics with the monk looking on. Adds good aesthetics. Keep up the good work, Hera

I think First Crusade should be in Top 5. One part that everyone seems to forget is that it also gives you same conversion resistance as Faith. For half the price (Faith is 1750 res, First Crusade is 900 res), you get both Faith and some Serjeants on top. It's insane value.

Glad to see Silk Armor getting mentioned. So powerful as Tatars, as the two units you'll almost always make is CA and Hussar, both of which are insane. It allows you if you can afford it in castle age to have absolutely crazy CA which with Keshiks are very strong.

Poles castle age unique tech is insane because not only do they have extra gold from mining stone, they also have a amazing food eco, and in castle age they have maxed knights. Ive seen a lot of high stakes games won where oponent went imp but poles just spammed knights and its so hard to stop because once you get the unique tech, it becomes really cheap to spam them. And even in early imperial they are solid, getting blast furnace and the first knight line upgrade (i never know if its paladin then cavalier or cavalier then paladin 11) makes them kinda like the goths where you just spam a bit weaker gold units

Two other honorable mentions: Burgundians Vineyards -> got to like the free gold, especially when it gets sparse. And chieftains, turns Berserks into an anti-cavalry unit : )

I was almost expecting you to talk about steppe husbandry... being able to spam hussars twice as fast from stables can be huge! I've held pressure on an arena game once thanks to this tech

My personal honorable mention is (was) Eupsong (Koreans have all their tower types except bombard get +2 range)-- at least before they nerfed tower rushing by reducing tower hp when DE released. This was such a nasty thing to go up against before the nerf.

I think you undersold Yeomen a little. Yes, the extra range is what most people go for it for, but the +2 tower ap is also pretty useful.
A watch tower jn CA has 5+2 Attack.
With Yeomen jt has 5+4 Attack
A generic Guard Tower has 7+2 Attack

In other words, the tech elevates the damage output of your towers to the standard of a Guard Tower, which literally doubles its damage output against Mangonels (which have 5 armor, so 4 damage instead of 2 against them). This makes their towers much better to defend against flanking attacks on the economy.

Chieftains imo is op. viking champions/berserks SHRED cav, those units with chieftains counter basically everything in the game besides archers/hand cannons, so just mix in some skirms and the army is unbeatable.

And now with the new gold bonus per kill it got even better

I think First crusade should be atleast top 4 because it gives the conversion resistance of faith for half the cost and a strong powerspike with the serjeants as well.

I believe Pavise for the Italians is a top 5. The Italians are much like the Byzantines they counter many civs, and top civs at that. Bohemians what do you have gunpowder countered. Chembows, I have fully upgraded +extra armor. Hindustani sorry, condos beat your hand cannoneers and ghulam and camels until Imp camel. Genoese crossbow help finish off the Imp camel. Gujaras- armor to archers helps keep them alive to overcome shirvamsha riders, Gen crossbows counter camels, elephant archers and armored elephants, camels don't have anything to receive bonus damage against. Condos and archers have good armor to resist pass through damage of Chakram throwers. Meso civs, Condos counter eagles and are almost as fast. Archers are +armored to win battles. Monks- go ahead convert them (arbs, gen cross, condos) all cost 85 resources or less) you have a 85 resources unit and i kill your 100 gold monk. All this and they are an excellent water civ. No wonder why we are seeing them picked more and more in tournaments.

4:35 Is that really one hussar with stirrups and one without? They seem to have the same attack speed (at least as measured by the attack animations).

Atleast you honorable mentioned anarchy for the exact reason I put it in top 5 myself. Anarchy and perfusion literally make the goths the fearsome civ it is. And ls being even better now than it ever was, they are imo a very respectably scary civ at most stages of the game now.


Give a goth time to breath and it's over. Even then under pressure and smart play their castle is not weaker than other generic civs imo. From someone who almost exclusively played goths during the zone days.
