This is a direct result of the rent control laws in New York City landlords do not have the money to keep up their buildings and safe livable conditions. Too much government intervention telling landlords what they can and cannot charge is ridiculous. And as far as smoke alarms go that's because tenants are too cheap to buy a $2 battery for the smoke alarm they think everything has to fall on the landlord cut me a break
