Snagging Salmon in Alaska! {LEGALLY!}

READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING 😉🎣
One of the few places to LEGALLY snag fish for meat harvesting is the sockeye run in Seward. This is a state hatchery supported fishery. It is a blast and a great way to provide meat for families for the winter.
EVERY fish we snag is harvested for food!! Most of the meat harvested on this trip was shared with needy people in remote villages that use the meat all winter long.

#Fishing #Alaska #salmon #sockeye

*We often practical ethical catch and release. However, eating is part of life. We never waste any fish we harvest.

This is a legal type of fishing as long as you are in the right spot (in this case Seward Alaska off Nash road) and as long as you have a license, it's not just a subsistence fishing and it is actually really fun and you legally have to keep whatever you catch so you can't put the snagged fish back to die.

For anyone wondering you have to check if it is legal at different places or it is legal but in some places it is illegal (yes I know I’m late)

Read the regulations, people! Hard for Fish & Wildlife to use us as a management tool if we don't follow the damn rules!

If the rules say snagging is a legal method of harvest, then stop bashing people who follow the rules! Has nothing to do with ethics. If you don't like it, don't do it!

Bunch of antis in the hunting and fishing community. Just go to bed if you can't support legal harvest.

I can't be around that many people. Especially if I'm trying to fish and enjoy it

This is called ripping where I come from. Highly illegal and could go to jail for doing it. Our rivers used to be abundant with salmon. And because of methods like these the salmon is now endangered because people got greedy. That is not fishing

I wouldn't even think of it as a skill to let a hook float into a fish
