What is the Best Toothpaste? (according to a dental hygienist)

In this video, we’ll talk about how to choose the best toothpaste for your dental health. We’ll break down what to look for and explain the ADA Seal of Acceptance. Learn why fluoride is the top cavity-fighting ingredient, including types like sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, and sodium monofluorophosphate. We’ll also cover why nano-hydroxyapatite is a great alternative for those seeking fluoride-free options, despite its lack of ADA/FDA approval, and discuss how xylitol can be a beneficial addition (but not a substitute for fluoride). Remember, using the right toothpaste is only part of the equation—proper brushing technique and consulting your dental provider for personalized advice are key! Lastly, we’ll emphasize that cavity prevention is multifactorial: a balanced diet, regular dental visits, and maintaining the pH balance of your saliva all contribute to healthier teeth.

I miss the days when ADA accepted tubes of Toothpaste used to come in 12oz tubes in the 3 packs. It seems like I'm constantly buying toothpaste.

This channel is amazing. One of the best on YouTube. Why? Because you help us take care of our dental health, which is a super important in everyone's life. I have a video idea if you find it interesting: How can we use bubblegum (those that claim that are good for our teeth, like the ones that have Xylitol), to help keep our teeth healthy? Maybe it can help regulate our Ph? Thank you Whitney!;🎉

Girl do not underestimate the power of xylitol. But not small amounts that they put in toothpaste, but the real deal meaning 5-10g a day 2g after every meal and drink. Huge difference, much more important than any toothpaste, because xylitol used constantly within few months kills strep mutans making mouth a save environment free from cavity risk. Use it along good thootpaste and listerine mouthwash and there's no need not only for dentist appointments, but also scaling is no longer needed, because no more plaque/tartar is forming ever again.

the best toothpaste is the one that the American Dental Association (ADA) has accepted because it has the necessary data to support its claims. I only use toothpaste that the ADA has approved. If it’s not ADA-approved, I won’t touch it.

Since they do different things can you combine fluoride and nano-hydroxyapatite, to get the protection and remineralization?

I use this toothpaste which has calcium sucrose phosphate ions and my dentist recommended it. It is approved by IDA(indian dental association), however does it work the same as fluoride or does it have less effect than fluoride?

Hi Whitney, been following you for years and years and love your videos, so informative!
Quick question is there any real difference between a fluoride percentage .243 and .45 noticed that some have a lower and higher percentage, is it still serving the same purpose?
Thank you and God Bless 😊

Stannous fluoride is a more effective desensitizer than sodium fluoride plus it's antibacterial. Stannous Fl will desenitize teeth and help prevent gingivitis.

Would the ADA approval still be on Canadian toothpastes or is that just in the US? If it’s just the US, is there anything else to look for in Canada?

Dentist told me I have tooth erosion in back of my front teeth. I'm having a hard time finding a low abrasive toothpaste but also with out the harmful ingredients that can worsen tooth erosion. Any recommendations????
