It's important to remember that the Supremes did NOT end when Diana Ross quit the group. This song is a prime example.

I was 7 years old and hanging out with my older brother and sister New Years Eve, 1970, listening to the music countdown when I heard this song. I had heard the Supremes on the radio growing up and I loved their music, but this song sticks with me to this day. Of course, I was too young to care at the time but had I been a few years older, I would have had the biggest crush on Cindy Birdsong; she has the most beautiful eyes!

A song asking for peace that made you wanna dance. How good is that. One of Motown's greatest moments. Too bad Barry Gordy didn't recognize it.

In 1970 I was a High school student doing my homework in my room at home one night when I remember listening to this on the radio and loving it. As this music played it wasn't long before I could be heard loudly throughout the house practically yelling out 'Stoned Love' and singing along with these wonderful ladies. I also remember my parents running to come find out what was the matter with me. I paid attention to the words in the song "time is so short" and I also prayed for peace with the Supremes, since the Vietnam war was raging during that time in our nation. This lonely white boy was 'Stoned' but not because of any drug, but rather on life and being "Young 'at heart." Beautiful memories from nearly 50 years ago come to me now in this sad cold and ugly world.
