This is my FAVORITE Ella Fitzgerald album, it captures the Blues in its raw essence. I'm sure, Bessie, Ma, Mae, Mamie, Chippie, and dear friend(s) Dinah and Billie--would be extremely proud of Ella for this amazing album. Derived from my personal collection "Ella Fitzgerald: These Are The Blues." All right(s) to 1963/1991 The Verve Music Group, a Division of UMG Recordings, Inc.

Ella opens with a sort of blues cadenza: slipping and sliding thru the minor thirds. Later the band switches to double time and Ella casts off the blues to finish on a happy note. Superb.

Trouble in Mind
Ella Fitzgerald
Album: Essential (These Are the Blues)
Year: 1964

Trouble in mind, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
For the sun will shine in my back door someday

Trouble in mind, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
For the sun will shine, shine in my back door someday

Trouble in mind, that's true
I have almost lost my mind
Life, life ain't worth living, feel like I could die

I'm gonna lay my head
On some lonesome railroad line
And let the 2/19 (TWO-NINETEEN)* train
Ease my troubled mind

Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble in mind,
I am blue my poor heart is beating slow
Never had no trouble
Never had no trouble in my life before

I'm all alone at midnight
My life is burning low
I never had so much trouble in my life before

I'm gonna lay my head on that lonesome railroad track
But when I hear that whistle lord I'm gonna pull it back

I'm going down to the river
Take up my rocking chair
And if the blues don't leave me, I'm rock on away from there

Well trouble
Oh trouble
On my worried mind

I'm glad then just to keep from crying
Just to keep from crying
Just to keep from crying
Trouble on my worried mind

Songwriters: Richard M. Jones (adaptation of the 1924 written song)

Ella, Aretha, Sister Rosetta, Sam Cooke, Nina Simone have covered this song. Written a hundred years ago!

this partilcular song is about as fine and example of the art of singing as there has ever been or at least that I have ever heard. RIP Ella
