Hey everyone! Here's the official video for my new single "LGBTQIA (A New Generation)", which I'm crazy excited to finally share with you! For a long time, I felt a deep need inside of me to write and record this, so thought I'd just say a few words about my inspiration behind the song.

Firstly, it's a dedication to today's generation of fabulous youth around the world: increasingly open-minded, loving, caring and understanding of one another's differences and similarities. I've seen so many incredible, free-thinking, community-orientated, liberal young individuals in the comment sections of my videos over the last few years, and it's been massively heartwarming and inspiring to witness. Kids full of pride, who celebrate difference, unafraid to experiment and unashamed of labels; a generation able to flourish and find their voices in radically changed societies; people able to experience and enjoy their own identities from a young(er) age, under the protection of (new) law(s) and without fear of criminal persecution.

But at the same time, it's so important not to become complacent and to continue to call out those politicians, world leaders, governments and global institutions who, through misguided morals and often with malicious intent, actively stand in the way of equality being achieved. Those folks still lost in the past, on the wrong side of history, stuck in a war of ignorance. The ones who want to see this new generation's liberties quashed at every opportunity!

And yet mostly, this song is my heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of thousands who came before us; to the ones who paved the way and broke down the walls; to the generations who sacrificed and suffered through inequality and gross injustice, but who nonetheless challenged their systems and authorities and fought tirelessly to bring about the kinds of changes we're seeing today, so that people like me could experience the freedoms, happiness and, eventually, legal protections that so many of us now enjoy in our societies. This is for the ones who made it possible for folk like me to upload songs like this onto a global platform without fear of persecution or repercussion.

Tragically, this is still not always the case and the fight continues in many parts of the world even now. So we must never take our equality for granted, especially whilst so many of our brothers and sisters around the world still experience so much prejudice and, in many cases, physical danger. Those of us who ARE able to live freely and authentically within our own societies - we must carry on doing whatever we can so that EVERYONE can enjoy these freedoms in the future. And we must never forget those who relentlessly gave everything (and still do) to make this “better world” a reality for everyone.

This song stands as my tribute to those trailblazers, pioneers, freedom fighters, activists and everyday people who gave their lives to fight for global equality. Hope you enjoy it! M x

RIP to all people who were locked up and killed for being themselves, you will be remembered forever and will always be looked up to and inspire people.

Also the lyric “What are they still fighting for” reminded me that there’s a huge problem in the US where it’s still legal in most states to throw a person of your store/fire them/evict them from their apartment etc. etc. just for being a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and conversion therapy is still legal in some states (idk how many forgive me if it’s more or all). The fact that these things are still legal sickens me. We need to teach people that regardless of religious belief, opinions, etc. that you should still respect a person (things like calling them by the right pronouns and name.) and accept/tolerate them even though they might be different from you. You should also not try to change them (conversion therapy) even if they are your child, although you might not agree leaving them alone and letting them be who they truly believe is themselves (even if you do not) is a lot less mentally, emotionally, and physically damaging then sending them to get “fixed”. There is no place for hate in this world. I see discriminating against an LGBTQIA person just because they belong to that community as if you were to black person just because they’re black; it makes no sense. I just want to add a quick reminder that we are all human and we should all be able to coexist with each other without violence and hate.

I found "Radio-Friendly Pop Song" while making a pride playlist, because it's June, and I saw you were making other really gay songs. I think I'm obsessed so you're about to get a lot more listens on Spotify and a lot more views on Youtube. Thanks for making music like this, and especially this song which acknowledges that a lot of people fought for our rights to be out and proud, and that there's still a fight. You made a fun yet conscious song that's fun to sing along to.

We can never rid the entire world of narrow-minded ignorant haters, but as long as we continue to take two steps forward for equality for all while they try and knock us back a step (and as this excellent video reminds us, never forget those who sacrificed to help us reach this point) then hate and fear will never win out over love and courage. And it all starts with how we treat each new generation. I have two Granddaughters... one bi and one gay... and all I want is for them to be safe to be themselves and the same for any of their children that they may have in future.

I'm from germany. The first CSD of the year got shut down because of some bs about security for the Foodtruck. It was in one of the Parts where the AfD, the german nationalist/right extremist party, is leading. The fight is never over. And in times like these we have to remember the ones who came before and the ones who will come after us. We have to fight to keep alls the good things we got in the last few decades.

I love how the background colours of the words in the video are the colours that make up different pride flags.

I saw the Ace and Aro flag colours, enby (incl. Agender/etc.) flag colours, trans flag colours, gay & lesbian flag colours, bi/ pan/ omni/ ply flag colours, poly flag colours, etc.

Is that me who only noticed this ?

anyone else coming back to this song and crying because the "new generation of freedom" failed and we're literally taking steps *back* instead of forward?

Letra

LGBTQI
LGBTQI
LGBTQI

A hey! hey!

Fabulous kids today
They're all being who they were born to be
In every creed and race
Religion and society
Right across the world redefining how we wanna live
In our communities
Watching archaic laws relegated to history
Raise a glass to the ones who paved the way
And opened up the doors
Tip a cap to the ones who sacrified and fought
For this generation of freedom
For a better world for you and me
But don't forget the scores
The ones who came before us in our history

LGBTQI
A hey! hey!

All these religious bigots and governments still in denial
Lost in the past stuck battling against the tide
Your days are numbered, your ways and views are dying
You're gonna lose with your dumb ignorant war
So give up the fight
Raise a glass to the ones who came before and broke down the walls
Tip a cap to the past, to the ones who sacrified and fought
For this generation of freedom
For a better world for you and me
But don't forget the scores
The ones who came before us in our history
Sing a song for the ones who gave it all
Gave their lives to their cause
Hey! Hey!
To give you and me the ability to scream our voice
A new generation of freedom rises up!

Slowly words break through, walls break down
And laws are changed
And then we raise the roof
It's time to celebrate until some idiot says
Haven't they got all their rights now!?
What are they still fighting for!?
But we can never desist 'til injustice and prejudice exiwt no more!
Raise a glass to the ones who paved the way
And opened up the doors
Tip a cap our past, to the ones who sacrified and fought
For this generation of freedom
For a better world for you and me
We won't forget the scores, the ones who came before us in our history
A new generation of freedom rises up!
Raise your voice! Raise your voice! Raise your voice!
Oh and with this privilege I feel responsibility
Hey! Hey!
To live my life out, proud and happy
Raise your voice!
And I thank the countless faces who made this all possible for me
For never giving in

this video came out 5 years ago. Back then, I was just discovering my sexuality, at my few 12 years old. Hidden from my family, I would eventually come out to my best friend, who would then become something like a brother to me. It's been only 4 years since I came out for the first time, and three years since I came out to my mom. My grandmother died recently, and I could never tell her because I was simply too afraid that she wouldn't be able to stand it. Today I stand, proud of who I am and who I have become with the help of my brother. I think he's the reason why I'm still alive today, and have done my best to fight my depression and anxiety these last years.

I say this because I think it is important to know that we're never alone. There will be friends, allies, ppl who love you for who you are and that, just like my brother, make this path a bit less difficult.

Be proud of what you are, of the people you love, and above all, love yourself. In this world of madness, even if you think no one loves you, let yourself be the one who loves you the most. ❤ 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️
