I don't know if it is synonymous with speaking, because speaking is an active participation in the definition of things, while light is just the condition that makes that possible. There are things you can see but you can't define clearly or even those for which you don't even have words. I would rather say it is synonymous with God's Word, or with Truth.

Light is that which makes things visible, and what do we see? Humans see the meaning/unity of matter. We see not particles or parts, we see the meaning of the whole. Gods light = the fenomenon which gives all things its meaning.

Are Church fathers like st. Basil materialists? What's the point of your interpretation anyway? Was there no knowledge and no identity before God said that? I can't see your point. Doesn't it seem like sometimes you guys mistake your method of interpretation for the subject of interpretation? I'm struggling to make sense of it.
