The math-focused breakin is actually how I originally set this, but there's a slightly easier way to think about it - if one asks where high digits can go in box 5, they can see that 8 and 9 are very restricted, then 7 must go into the 13 cage, then 5 and 6 are forced into the 8 and 9 cages, etc.

I actually didn't expect the 12 pairs to get resolved as early as you got them, they take a bit longer on my test paths. But once you noticed that quasi-x-wing... :) (It's not required either - you can just get pointing pairs to do the work instead, but...)

Lovely solve, and thank you for all the puzzles you share!

Took me almost 20 minutes just to beat box 5 into submission. But I finally got there. Why can't I ever remember to try math in busy killer cage puzzles? Your opening was much more elegant.

Disclaimer: I looked at the puzzle for 30 seconds and thought "No clue on how to get started", so paused and was just going to watch BremSter's solve until he noticed the center area. I couldn't resist and paused, and was able to complete the puzzle in 7:51 (conflict checker off), but I freely admit without that wonderful deduction from BremSter, it would have taken me far, far longer to solve it. Awesome puzzle!

Great solve and a really fun puzzle! I had almost the same solve path as the video, which makes me feel like I'm learning! 36 minutes for me, which was shocking!

Thanks for sharing your solve, and thanks to Sotek for a really enjoyable puzzle!

Could sit and watch you work out the break in for hours, you made it look so simple. Well done and a great puzzle.

This is a great puzzle. Felt like being held by the hand. :)

For a person who did not know what he was doing (18:56) you did it very fast and with great efficiency. :D

31 mins for me even after the explained break in. Great stuff Brem. Thanks for all your content and effort. You and another channel who need no name check keep my mental faculties ticking over whilst my physical ones are in decline. 👍

2:20 I solved the puzzle. For good or bad, I saw a quick glimpse of a reference to digits greater than 5 in a comment when I scrolled down too low, and that hovered in the background. Consequently, I counted the number of 6789s available in block 5. I had to max out the top digits in the 9 and 13-cages. 89 could go in either the 15 cage or the center cell. I felt for an instant that I'd broken the puzzle with the 13-cage below, once I penciled the 12 pair in the 8-cage. Then I realized that column of the 13-cage didn't need either.

Later, upon fully reading the comment, I realized that I'd misread it. It was only a glimpse, but I got the gist.

2:20 Tetris came to mind, particularly that time when one finally gives up the game.

Lovely puzzle. SET isn’t my best thing, so I needed a little nudge on the break-in, but once I had that, I did the rest on my own.

Very enjoyable puzzle. The break in was elegant but not too difficult once you spot it.

72:36 i can't believe i solved this.
No killer calculator, no pencilmark checker.
I used to only think about what digits sum up to the total.
Now i also think about what digits can't be in the cage.
Where must those digits go?

Nice approachable killer - despite initial impressions. My break-in was actually less mathy than bremsters approach. Once you've marked where 1 goes in cols 6 & 7, you then need to ask where 8 & 9 can go in box 5. And from there concentrate on the 15 cage. From there it all fills itself in.
