EDEN - vertigo ALBUM REVIEW

EDEN's debut album should appeal to fans of the James Blake strand of alternative R&B, but it's not really doing much for me.

EDEN - VERTIGO / 2018 / ASTRALWERKS / SINGER-SONGWRITER, ALTERNATIVE R&B, GLITCH POP

Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?

EDEN sounds nothing like Ed Sheeran lmao, I'll take James Blake or maybe Bon Iver but not Ed Sheeran

Personally, I love the album but I completely understand why you aren't crazy about it. Despite being his debut album, it's by far his least commercial project so far, his two previous EP's had some much more instantly gratifying tracks such as: Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll, End Credits, Wake Up...

I think the main appeals of EDEN are his unorthodox production style, highly competent lyricism and stellar voice. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's niche, but you either love his work, or are just kinda indifferent towards it, and again, considering your taste I'm not surprised you're kinda in the latter camp.

Review "I think you think too much of me"

EDEN intrigues me so much, I like this album but I'm really going to look forward to his next project like where his progression as an artist will take him in 5 years I think he will have a totally different sound

I’m personally a huge EDEN fan, but I can understand how Vertigo is not a lot of people’s “cup of tea”. When Vertigo came out, I was surprised with what came on the album because, in my opinion, it is so much different than all of his other stuff. I like it, don’t get me wrong, but if you don’t try not to give up on him. Go listen to some of his other stuff; you might be pleasantly surprised.

I'm definitely not the demographic he was going for either but idk why, this album has really grown on me the few times I've listened to it.

I'm really surprised you never heard of him before. There's a whole surge of new singers with a very similar style to eden. Artists like stephen, michl, syml, jaymes young, emmit fenn, majik, shallou, jeremy zucker, peter manos. There's a lot of them and they're all getting their fame from music channels like mrsuicidesheep, koala kontrol etc. I know you mostly only pay attention to labels but if you're interested in seeing where this new movement of youtube famous alternative artists is headed, you might wanna look up some of them.

Although I'm really happy he made this review I'm sad that he didn't mention things in this ambum he repeatedly mentions he loves in other albums.

Anthony is the type of person that loves stuff that is all over the place with eary, weird sounds and vertigo does nothing but lack that.

I thought he'd put more emphasis on the beautiful, harsh and loud sounds, noises, glitches in tracks like icarus, start//end and crash and the breaking glass sample in float and falling in reverse. It seems like the 'Ed Sheeran influence', which I have yet to see myself, took over his opinion on the project, which is truly disappointing.

EDEN is my GOAT and It's more for personal reasons and that's why it resonates with me so much, am glad you kept an open mind though, thorouglhy enjoyed the review!

I was but underwhelmed on my first listen. It's seriously grown on me though. This is a very personal album, and it feels like a grand first step for an indie musician with a ton of potential.

You said at about 2:25 that his audience want him to keep his music light and sweet like it is. I think he'll change his sound and keep his followers. He gained a following first with EDM and then changed to what he he is now and still retained his audience

I actually had never heard of EDEN until Vertigo released, where I suddenly heard his name everywhere. I said fuck it and downloaded the whole album on apple music, to give it a shot and first listened to Icarus (i dont usually listen to albums in order). Icarus, compared to the rest of the record, resonated with me the most. I do enjoy the entire album, but the raw vocals and glitchy production on Icarus just stood out to me.

I’ve been an eden fan for a while so I will always support him and I also really like everything he has put out. This album was 9/10 for me and I think it’s not “bland” or whatever.

My favorite songs off Vertigo - Love; not wrong (brave), float, Icarus, and wings.

Edit: falling in reverse and forever//over are great too

I'm really happy that the comment section isn't a complete shit hole of people saying he's a god or he's terrible. It's cool to see people on the internet able to have a civil discussion

Even if you didn't fully enjoy it, I am glad you gave EDEN his fair share. Maybe you could check out his past EP's or singles? Not for review of course but just for your own enjoyment.

Been following his stuff since 2014, this record is very different from a lot of his early stuff, I still love it because I've grown so attached to his stuff, and I genuinely love this record. But I think it would've been more interesting to see you take a look at the End Credits EP. That is, in my opinion, where he was trying the most new stuff, and really refining his craft.

I think it's also worth noting that Jonathon does the production for an artist named ATO, who makes some of my favorite European hip-hop right now, he just released an EP and if you find the time, you should give it a shot.

Thank you so much for touching on this, Melon! You summarized the album in a concise way that I think was really fair to EDEN as an artist. I personally loved it and I’m really glad you can understand why

EDEN is the first artist that has given me the overwhelming feeling of fandom that I've seen happen in younger people over my whole life. I don't think i could very well describe one thing about his music in particular that made me care about reviews being done about it. I just know that I like it a lot in a way that makes me feel/question if I've been melodically hacked
