Adam: What's going on, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins OEM replacement four and seven pole trailer wiring. If you guys have a Silverado and it comes with something like this, which goes to nothing, this isn't really going to do much for you. If you guys go on our website, grab the Hopkins and it's going to allow us to hook up not only just seven poles, but also four pole wiring for whatever kind of trailers you guys may have. It is going to be pretty much an OEM replacement. It looks a little bit different just because it has a couple spring doors, but other than that, it's going to fit in just like the OEM part that we removed here.

Same size, same shape, just a couple of added features. Let's go over them now.Like I said, we do have some spring loaded doors, so they're going to snap back nicely. This is going to be great to keep out all that moisture and stuff just because over time, obviously we're going down the road, if we're hauling the trailer in some rainy weather, snowy weather, whatever, all that corrosion from the salt and water and stuff isn't really going to get in there because we do have a little rubber piece here that's going to give it a nice seal around the shape of our plug. We do have options. If you guys would rather just have the dummy plug go back in once we remove it, we can take the wiring out and actually it comes with a bracket, so if we really wanted to, we could go ahead and screw it to our hitch receiver or something like that, but in my opinion, if I'm going to grab this one that replaces this, might as well just put it right in the end here so we just have an easier hookup and nothing really hanging off on our hitch. You guys are a little nervous about messing with the wiring on your guys' car.

I wouldn't be, just because we really don't have to splice into any wires. We pretty much just take out what's here, pull the plug apart and then just put it back in. No splicing, no cutting of any wires, which is definitely a plus because I like to keep my truck as OEM as possible. Another thing I do, I don't necessarily have a four-pole on my vehicle. I really don't.

I just have a seven pole right here. I actually had to purchase a converter to fit those four pole trailers that I haul. I don't necessarily love the converter. Yes, it works, but I have to keep track of it and sometimes I don't.With this, we're not going to have to have any added hardware at all. We don't have to worry about putting it somewhere where we're not going to lose it.

This way everything's right there. Whether you're doing a seven or a four pole trailer or something like that, you guys don't have to worry about grabbing anything else. This is really all you need. The first thing we want to do is take out our dummy plug on the back of our Silverado and what we're going to do to do that, it's going to look exactly like this. We're going to have these metal portions here. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go behind the bumper over there, squeeze these two in, and then what should happen is this dummy plug should come straight out. I'm going to go ahead and do the other side first, just a little bit, and then just really lightly put a little bit of pressure on this tab and she should this come right out.Now we can go ahead and pull this out the rest of the way. Next thing on our list is to take care of this little gray guy right here. To do that, all we really need to do is just press that middle tab there and work that guy out. We can set that to the side. Then we're going to go ahead and push this down and remove our dummy plug. I say dummy plug, that's just because all the wiring from the truck isn't really going anywhere. Go ahead and put that wherever you want to, and the rest is pretty much self explanatory. Here's the new piece. We're going to go ahead, put it exactly back where it was, replace our little bracket right here and then push it back into place and we're done. That's really all there is to know about the Hopkins four and seven pole OEM replacement trailer wiring on our 2020 Silverado.
