It also needs to be said: the umpiring was atrocious, for both sides. I hope next year we get clearer rules, disincentive diving, allow the game to flow, and allow the game to be played hard. I like Daniher as a player, he is great to watch, but my god, son, stop pleading with the umpire for freekicks! At some stage in the game, after Rampe spoiled his mark, he looked to the umpire for a freekick and the umpire replied, "C'mon, Joe, stand on your feet, " as if to say, "stop looking at me every time your mark is contested." But the hysteria around concussions and the pandering to softness has created a playing environment where players are incentivised to dive and plea for freekicks and we saw the umpires give into it a little last night. I hope the umpires let the GF be hard and fast.
