'It Doesn't Matter Anymore' - Linda Ronstadt & Buddy Holly

In 1958 Paul Anka wrote a song, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore", that Buddy Holly would record shortly before his untimely death in February of 1959. 15 years later in 1974 Linda Ronstadt would record and perform the song, writing the now familiar guitar arrangement. Here is both the Buddy Holly recording and a live performance by Linda Ronstadt with her play the guitar.
The sole intent of this video is to simply share my interest in the history of, and love for this song and to share two very different interpretations and nothing more.

When Linda Ronstadt opens her mouth ... magic comes out. She was a gift to her generation, and her recordings will keep on giving to future generations.

I cannot imagine a higher compliment for a songwriter than to find out that Linda Ronstadt was going to record one of your songs

I like both versions, but Linda Ronstadt's version is so poignant and moving. She was one of the best singers of all time.

LInda Ronstadt deserves every accolade that can be given her. She relied on talent and hard work to build her music career rather than autotuners, tasteless costumes, and bad behavior to get press attention.

It’s called a gift, her voice. I’m grateful she shared it with us.
Saddest thing in the world that Parkinson’s stole it. Thank heavens for the recordings!

For those of us boys who grew up in the 60s and 70s, Linda was a Goddess who sang with the voice of an Angel! How lucky we were. ♥

Paul Anka signed over the Royalties for this song to Buddy's widow to help her with expenses after Buddy's tragic death. Thank you Paul!

The loss of Buddy Holly was tragic… the amount of music he made in a short period of time… only scratched the surface of what might have lied ahead… I never got to see Linda Ronstadt in concert…BUT… did see her in Pirates Of penzance…at Radio City Music Hall…specifically to see her…😛 !!! She is an extremely talented artist… Heart Like A Wheel… is an incredibly beautiful album… one of my favorites of hers. The tragic common thread here is that both Buddy Holly’s and Linda Ronstadt’s musical careers have been silenced… a tragedy for anyone who listened to played and loved their music… Thank You… to them both…💐🕊️💐😔

God bless her...one of the all time example of pure unadulterated talent....from a time when artists could actually sing and play an instrument without using digital crutches. Much respect to her. Parkinson disease has taken her voice but the body of her work will stand the test of time .

I didn't know Paul Anka wrote this song but I've always liked it. Linda sings it like an angel. She's the greatest.

Growing up the first time I heard a few notes from her vocals she had me. Then I saw her photo and then actually perform. It was a done deal. Wow what a talent!

An angel outta Arizona with a one in a billion voice. She could wail with the best of 'em but could also, as in this song, be heartbreakingly tender. Thank you for sharing your magical gift with us, Linda.

What a dream it would be to see Buddy Holly and Linda Ronstadt sing together. Oh well, it will have to wait until we're all together on the other side.
