Hey there guitar friends!!! In this week's video we tackle the question... Should I keep my Strymon Timeline delay pedal? Since I moved to my new place the Timeline hasn't gotten much attention. So, I'm whipping it out and running through some presets. Hopefully, this will remind me of why I bought it in the first place.

I have to agree that when choosing a delay it is so easy to buy something very expensive with more features than you'll ever use unless your into sonic soundscapes.
Big delay and reverb sounds sound brilliant when added in the PA mix at live gigs but that fidelity is lost when playing into a guitar amp pushing the breakup barrier where you have no headroom for it.
My suggestion is if you're recording use the outboard gear on the mixer and if your playing live a good, and cheaper analogue delay like a Boss or MXR et al, will be just as effective if you are pushing your amp.

I love my Timeline but was recently impressed with an Alabs Timeslip delay pedal.

I suspect Strymon was feeling the pressure from other Multi-Mode delay pedal manufacturers and made the unusual decision to release a "Does All" delay pedal. This pedal is against Strymon's normal design philosophy, as they don't make pedals that have tons of knobs and functions. This pedal is still considered complex by today's standards. You have to have the book with you while you twist knobs. While it can do-all, almost all users find it's more than they really need and not easy to get the sounds they want. Since that time Strymon has come out with the Volante which is much easier to configure and has the three most popular delay types built in. It too is a larger unit, but way easier to configure and get the delay sounds that people have in their heads.
