Part two of my lessons with Mari Humberg! We talked a bit about slices in pickleball. Mari has one of the deadliest and aggressive slices that I've seen, which is a controversy in itself. She, however, makes it so effective so I wanted to get a close look on her technique and how she utilizes it.

Mari is a great instructor. I also love that she explains and dispels the myth of the slice shot. What Zane and his followers fail to tell the average player is this. Sure the slice gives the opponent a topspin ball. What they fail to acknowledge is that it takes EXTRA FORCE to topspin it back compared to a dead ball. So sure the strongest hitters and spinners may do something with it but the other 90% of us will struggle to lift the ball over the net. Ask any table tennis player who plays against a chopper.

Thanks! Mari you are very clear: Feet 45 angle, paddle angle creates the spin, stable wrist, a swing from the shoulder…i gotta go drill this, and hopefully mix it in.
