I grew up in my family’s pawn shop and my least favorite show of all time is Pawn Stars. The number of people that would come in with junk that they wanted appraised just to ask “don’t you guys have an expert?” was unreal.

"skill based" fame shows are largely real because it's actually *illegal* for them not to be after the quiz show scandals back in the 50s/60s.

someone on YouTube talked (incredibly briefly) about how the reason these shows absolutely took over television in the early 2000s because of the writers strike going on at the time and I think about that a lot

I was disappointed that House Hunters isn't real. They find people that have already moved and then move all their stuff out and pretend to try to figure out which one they want. I guess it makes sense. Who wants to make a choice between 3 house?
