These serve as character building and faith edification for our personal and spiritual growth. Just like when gold is purified and refined by fire. Aren't the best steels are the ones that were set through the hottest? furnance. As it is written, Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.

It is even furthered, For I know that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared to the glory that is to be revealed for us.
