i ALWAYS knew they were instant, but damn they are still great, idc what anyone thinks. as a KFC fan, i gotta have the Potatoes and the Slaw to go with my Original Recipe, along with extra gravy to dip the biscuits in.

Kfc was my very 1st job at age 17 for 2 years and i loved it. The mash potatoes are a powder mix but we used large mixers to save time and to make sure they were completely finish and the gravy. The butter came as liquid in a jug and I always applied generously lol The vegetables came in cans (ofcourse), the macaroni came in covered pans and stayed in the walk in freezer. The only thing I couldnt get my hands on was the original it came in packets that only the chicken cooks had.

I want a legitimate show of hands how many people actually believed a fast food restaurant is hand smashing potatoes and making their gravy from scratch lmao. sorry to spoil it but every side at every fast food restaurant you've been to is frozen or prepackaged and reheated using a microwave, steamer, or fryer

i saw a video of Colonel Sanders who inspected a restauarant and he had them throw the entire pot of gravy out and he personally rolled up his sleeves and made an entire batch... I remember in the early 70's the gravy was truly addicting with flavor that I would love to taste today but then today's gravy apparently is from a powder unlike the real thing way back when. of course we still eat it. What it's doing to our bodies is scary to think what's in it today...I remember a famous chef once said if you can't pronounce the ingredients ...DONT EAT IT

I like the Cole slaw, not the potatoes so much....I thought EVERYONE knew they were powdered?

I worked at KFC for years in the 80s. We used to make the potatoes with an instant mix and some margarine. The gravy was made using the "Crackelings" (the breading that falls off the chicken" with a gravy packet too. Cole slaw was simply 3 ingredients shredded cabbage, carrots and Marzetti slaw dressing.

As a KFC worker. It's sad to say that we do it with powder because yeah it's fast food and people that say, "Gross. Never again." Are the types of people to complain about their food not getting out fast enough or it's not 5 minutes out of the fryer fresh.

When the KFC founder sold the company they changed the recipe for the gravy. He hated it. If you have the History Channel watch The Food that Built America. It's really intriguing.

Back in high school, I worked at KFC. We used to take the cracklings from the fried chicken, drain them overnight and used them to make the REAL Garvey. My how times have changed. We also made the coleslaw in house from scratch.

The famous gravy is made of the extra breadings that fall off while deep-frying the chicken. You drain the grease and collect all the scaps at the bottom then cook with a powder also, yum yum. Very true I worked there.

I use instant when I don’t want to spend time making from scratch. The mix I make is just ground cooked dried potatoes, salt, and dehydrated butter. Nothing weird about instant potatoes.

I always knew this, purely by it's texture. That being said, I love the potato and gravy.
