I'll believe this when I see it !! And if they price it that high, Corvette sales will plummet as most people will never be able to afford it !! the Corvette was supposed to be the sports car the " every man " could afford

Just don't call the C8 a corvette. Just call the new C8 a Zora.

How about this, keep the Corvette as is F/R under $100, 000 and drop the Corvette name and the C8 moniker from the C8 altogether and just call it the Zora. That way they cover all 3 levels of the market. The Camaro as the entry level sports car, the Corvette as midrange, and the Zora as the high-end Super Car. That way if one does fail it doesn't wipe out the other.

It won't surprise me if this turns into a repeat of the Porsche 911 story. The die hard fans will not take to the new configuration and keep on buying the traditional version. I personally embrace new technology and would go for the mid engined version.

Chevrolet is going to make the same mistake Dodge did with the viper. selling a product that's too expensive for its core market.

If it has a starting price over 100K they might as well shut the factory down. The primary reason the Corvette sells as well as it does is because you can get a car that performs as well as a 100K Porsche or Ferrari for 60 to 80K. Pushing the price tag north of 100K is going to drive off a lot of customers who would otherwise buy the car. If I had to choose between a 100K Vette and a 100K Porsche I'd take the Porsche every time. This is a terrible decision.

@0:40 Which is weird because the corvette currently does have 50/50 weight distribution.

I've been hearing this speculation for at least 3 years now. Yet, there has not been ANY kind of supporting evidence coming to light.

I was able to afford my 2004 Z06 new but the newest models are now out of my reach. Thank you Chevrolet...

I will stick with my 08 3lz z06, after the head cam exhaust change I have plenty of rwhp at 625., and I love the looks

This issue with engines starting to go north of 700hp, the current front engine rear drive setup is hitting its limits in power handling from a chassis dynamic standpoint. The Challenger/Charger can handle that type of power because of how larger that chassis is but with the Corvette being smaller and lighter, having such a large amount of power starts to become unstable.Moving to rear engine setup will allow Chevy to keep the chassis as small and light as possible while still keeping handling and stability of all that power in check. Wouldn't be surprised if they went AWD also.

I hope they go with a transverse mounted engine. Maybe even a flat/boxer 8 instead of a V8. Maybe do like that one Ferrari that had a flat/boxer engine mounted ON TOP OF the transmission for space savings, centralization of mass, and low center of gravity.

Hmm, I can see it now. Front mount radiator, dry sump oil system with the reservoir in the front, front mount battery, 6.4L Boxer 8 mounted on top of the transmission or a smaller, perhaps 4.8L boxer 8 mounted the same and turbo or supercharged with either engine possibly mounted transversely, 45/55 front-rear weight distribution possible. A real sick ride.

I'm a vette fan for sure, I'm glad to see the mid engine. It's a great progression.

Sounds like time to start saving for the C8.

For all those misinformed comments about the implications of the current C7 50/50 weight distribution: it deviates more from that distribution under hard braking and acceleration than a mid-engine configuration would. Having said that, I agree on keeping the Corvette as a front engine layout.

Wow, this is what I had said last year, but I was off 1 year, I heard that 2018 would be the year for the C8 due in late December of 2017 while the C7 would carry over for 2017 thru 2019. I heard this from my brother a retired Chevrolet performance systems engineer who just retired 3 months ago. It was strange hearing the exact thing I had commented on around 21 months ago in early 2015, just now.

I had said back then that the C8 would be out in late 2017 as an 18 but also said the C7 would run through 2018 and possibly 2019 along side the C8. I also said that at the end of 2017 the ZR1 would be built on the C7 chassis until in 2019-20 when the name would be brought over to the C8 as the Zora ZR1. I was told the C8 was going to be called The Zora Stingray as the base C8 while the ZR1 would be the Zora ZR1 without the Stingray name.

I was also told by the time the C8 Zora ZR1 came out it would have the all new version of the DOHC 4.0L V8 that's for the 2018 Caddilacs
will be ready in a 5.0L to a 6.3L or possibly a 7.0L with twin turbos for the 2019 Zora ZR1. AWD not before 2021. 7 speed manual along with the 10 speed manumatic that's out in the ZL1 many different plastics along with carbon fiber will be used along with an aluminum chassis.

The engines ratings, 750hp @ 7300rpm and 750lbft @ 3800rpm. Weight around 2800lbs to 3000lbs.

The current Corvette is already 50/50 weight front to back, hmmm sounds like a big mistake C8

Agreed on production, and price range!
However, the option of the mid engine C8 would put the super car world on its ear!
The super car prices would come down, and world wide Corvette sales would increase.

Just a thought.
