When you started the teaching of Bonhoffer I was quikened to find this as I thought it was a quote from him but it was from McLuhan. I am posting out of obedience.

This message starts with a quote from a Christian with a prophetic gifting named Marshall McLuhan born in 1911. “We shape our tools and then our tools shape us.”
“Technology is an extension of our own natural faculties; (ex.) just as a knife is an extension of the hand; the wheel an extension of the leg; writing an extension of speech and memory; automobiles become extensions of our bodies; electronic communication is an extension of our nervous system; just as computers are an extension of our brain.” I know it’s getting a tad deep but hang on.
Once extended however these technologies (tools) are amputated. They exist as external and independent objects though we remain dependent on them. So here is where it’s going. How did the Church get formulated into these weekly gatherings and institutions? Now it wasn’t institutional in Corinth. They gathered together as a tool to express their life together. Then somewhere the tool got amputated from the reality. Some how the tool let’s get together on this day to facilitate the Love of Christ transforms to we are doing this thing, and then it becomes an obligation to uphold. Not a tool with its intent as to the facilitation of real life, and love together as a family.
So much of what we have inherited some two thousand years later, is we have shaped or tools and now they are the objective. We lost the reason for having a tool to begin with. The tool becomes its own objective or religion if you will. Something that facilitates life in one generation becomes the obligation of the next generation. And we end up serving the thing instead of it serving us; a lifeless non organic obligation from another generation. The first generation does it as a tool because they want to. Then the following generations do it because they feel they have to. “And as it generates on in time it can twist and split like a hydra with many heads.” My quote.

So creating a safe place for believers doesn’t work if the tool; the institution; is the important thing you are trying to deal with. Because you don’t want people asking questions, expressing doubts, struggling with doctrine, saying something they believe is not taught here and we don’t believe it.
However the body gathers whether it is in a large institution, home meeting or wherever. If the getting together how ever we do it has become The Deal the relationship is always gonna be lost. And will end up loveless because it ends up being amputated from the purpose. Then the tool for the purpose ends up shaping you. Then like in Lord of the Rings the tool becomes your precious and you protect it at all cost. Even if you started out as pure hearted as Frodo. Beware of the tool becoming the goal.
Some of the things we may have discarded at some point, because it had been an objective that damaged us. It may be a tool God wants to bring back in a way that is a billion times more alive because maybe now it’s not an objective of something we created as a task, but it’s expressed the relationship of a group of people, and what God has asked them to do on the planet. Not a man’s vision driving people to come along with it. The task isn’t the permanent, but the friendships are the permanent reality.
Now maybe we can task together on this for a season or maybe we can’t task together. There is freedom to do that in a more liquid way. If we haven’t created these rings of power, the institutions that have management, money, facility, and property. Religion is more shaping people than people are learning how loved they are by Father, and living loved relationships with each other. In that love religion isn’t needed. It’s only needed to obligate a second generation to something that wasn’t life to them.
When God moves, and it is just the genuiness of God’s stirring in whomever’s heart is around, something wonderful happens. But then it is like that movement tries to solidify, make boundaries, put definition, and all kind of stuff. Then it halts the movement. “It gets out of the follow the cloud by day mode to a; we can make the manna for that season last forever.” (My quote)

The movement isn’t to become a monument or a denomination, but a following of Him. “Not a following of Moses (a man) as he followed the cloud, that was not God’s original intention. Remember they gave up their priesthood to follow man, then to judges, then to kings.” (My quotes) “The cloud/fire just keeps moving or halting how it (HE) pleases.”
It does not need to define itself, or label itself. It just relates to Him, and Loves each other. And this kind of community would be absolutely compelling on this planet. But no, men just keep getting out their chisels to shape the movements. By shaping it we create our ring, our precious. With titles, prestige, money, etc. You then think of your precious as God has made me a steward of this movement.
It is about living truly. It’s about you the individual following the cloud. And allowing others around you living truly also. It takes knowing it is God who is providing, and accomplishing the work in each individual. So I can allow a brother or sister to do something even if I feel they are dead wrong. Like some different theology and going around expressing that. It is not that I can bless you and your bad theology. It is saying you know what if that’s where you see the cloud moving for you, I support what you have to walk through here. The trust is knowing God is big enough to work the Truth out in either person. “The Truth penetrates; The Truth plants a seed that will grow.” (My quote) The trust is God is the one moving the pieces on the table and it’s not me.
The minute we try to assist God in something He didn’t specifically ask us, which is the minute a breakdown in relationship happens. Then we feel the agenda of someone else’s will being forced upon you.
Yours and mine friendships only work when we do this. Both living truly and doing what He asked us to do. Even if we may feel one is making a mistake. Sometimes brothers and sisters task for God together and sometimes we don’t.
Paul and Barnabus are a great example. (Acts 15:36) They had went on a great missionary journey together. They came home, and they thought they were going to do it again. But they couldn’t. God had put it on Barnabus’ heart to take Mark again. Paul ended up on his next mission not with Barnabus but Silas. They got into so intense fellowship because they were trying to get the other to go along with what they believed was right and Godly. The obedience became an us obedience instead of a my obedience. If God is asking me to take John Mark I will. And if He is asking Paul not to take John Mark then great. “We don’t have the will of God for others. We are fine discerning the will of God for us as individuals. When we do that is when they dig their heels in, and relationship starts down a path of strife.”
The Church has to be the fruit of something. It’s not the beginning point or goal. It’s not let’s get a group of people together and decide what to do. No, it’s let us become friends in God together and then see if God ask us to do something together. And if He doesn’t that’s fine. We can still be family without doing something together.

“That was the end of that podcast. It prompted me to re-read Acts. John Mark was not just some chump that tagged along with the first mission, and then got tired of it and went home. By other scriptures about him I see great character. Paul had a super zeal about him, and I would bet that no possible excuse would have been good enough from deviating from that first mission. Barnabus on the other hand understood the reason John Mark needed to return home early, and knew God still had great plans for him. I also like how it shows Paul’s humanness still. He probably could of showed a bit more compassion for John Mark, and give him another chance. Scriptures showing it was an intense argument shows that Paul was loosing his cool if ya would. No matter though both teams came to a settlement and God blessed both along each of their journeys.” My two copper pennies.
