In this video we take a look at AWS EaslticSearch Service . We cover the basic concepts of AWS Elastic Search Service from a theory perspective before diving into the console for a hands on approach. On the AWS Console we create an ElasticSearch Cluster and upload data. We then look at searching this data via the search API and Kibana.

Amazon Elasticsearch Service is a fully managed service that makes it easy for you to deploy, secure, and run Elasticsearch cost effectively at scale. You can build, monitor, and troubleshoot your applications using the tools you love, at the scale you need. The service provides support for open source Elasticsearch APIs, managed Kibana, integration with Logstash and other AWS services, and built-in alerting and SQL querying. Amazon Elasticsearch Service lets you pay only for what you use – there are no upfront costs or usage requirements. With Amazon Elasticsearch Service, you get the ELK stack you need, without the operational overhead.

😎 About me
I have spent the last decade being immersed in the world of big data working as a consultant for some the globe's biggest companies. My journey into the world of data was not the most conventional. I started my career working as performance analyst in professional sport at the top level's of both rugby and football. I then transitioned into a career in data and computing. This journey culminated in the study of a Masters degree in Software development. Alongside many a professional certification in AWS and MS SQL Server.

Quick question, how will you use curl command for using json file to upload directly to kibana, instead of adding one json at a time?

@JohnnyChivers If I had a custom file type (like a some output from my own application that was a mix of Binary and Ascii. Can I get elastic search to understand a custom object? (Like say it did not know anything abouyt a word document - which is a mic of formatting, words, binary etc, can I teach it to index new file types that I design?

NOTE: aws does not offer the "real" Elasticsearch anymore. What you will find now (after the shitstorm) is a forked, worse version called Opensearch (ironically).
