Great tips. I should really try starting a session with combat. One of my current favourite ways to draw players in at the start is to describe a very short scene taking place elsewhere. Whet their curiosity. "A hooded figure in a dark chamber rifles through an open chest. They gasp as they find what they are looking for. A gloved hand wraps around a glowing purple crystal, as a smirk unfurls on their face."

I try to end the session with a cliffhanger, so that they will be really eager to get going when we meet up for the next session. Right now we have two cliffhangers: the troubadour just nailed the governor's hand to his desk and is waiting to see if this loosens his tongue, and the scoundrel is being whisked away by the guards after having been betrayed.

My wife always provides the Texan if she GMs but I can not be bothered to recap the last session.
In my opinion that’s something the players have to do. GMs already have so many responsibilities 😁
We always start after exactly 15 minutes after everyone arrives. If that’s not happening the music kicks in and everybody knows it’s time to get rolling.
