Would you like to learn how to use would in English? In today’s English lesson you will learn how to use would 7 different ways in English.

Would is not just used as the past of will. There is much more to know about this exciting verb. The 7 ways that you can use Would in English are:
1.Would is used for wishes, wants, and desires. ex: I would love to travel the world. He’d like to come to the party.
2. Would is used for polite requests and questions. Ex: Would you close the window, please? Would you happen to have the time?
3. Would is also used for unreal situations / hypothetical situations, including conditional sentences and giving advice. Ex: I would go on a diet, but I love chocolate too much. If I won the lottery, I would travel. If she had studied harder, she would have passed the test. I wouldn’t do that if I were you!
4. In reported speech / indirect speech would is used instead of will. Ex: Liz said, “I will be late.” = Liz said that she would be late. John said, “I won’t come to the party.” = John said that he wouldn’t go to the party.
5. Wouldn’t or Would not is used to talk about past refusals / past rejections. Ex: My car wouldn’t start this morning. My husband would not stop snoring last night. I asked her to help, but she wouldn’t.
6. Would is used to talk about past actions / habits. Ex: When I was a high school student, I would go roller-skating every weekend. As a child, I would always have a bedtime snack.
7. Would is used when you are telling a story about an event that happened in the past, and you mention a past event that was still in the future during the time you’re referencing. Ex: During my second year teaching in Japan, I met the man who I would marry. In October when I visited my father, I didn’t know that it would be the last time we spoke.

Note: Would is an example of a modal auxiliary verb. It must always be used with another verb (usually the base form of a verb) to complete your sentences.
Remember that would can be contracted with your subject: I’d = I would, You’d = You would, He’d = He would, She’d = She would, It’d = It would, They’d = They would, We’d = We would

Hi Jen! Appreciate your work, I mean all the videos you are making for all of us . This one was helpful especially for me)))). But...I'm always using "used to do something" (for past repeated action/habits) instead of "would" . Like, " Every Saturday i used to go to see my grandma " .
Would you like please to explain me if there is a difference between these thank you 😊
