Discord's Mobile App is.... good now?

Discord's mobile app was a hot mess. People complained about button placement, lag, features nobody asked for.

And believe it or not (I didn't believe it at first), Discord is listening to its users. Discord is working on a bunch of beta features and experiments that improve the mobile experience. The best part? You might have access to some of them right now.

I love how they are eventually just going to revert to the old layout through these updates and effectively render the new one obsolete.

Once they have finished with all these experiments, they should focus on polishing the performance of the app itself. Too many weird bugs keep popping up whenever I just want to do some basic thing in the app

Swiping from right to left to view the member list is a must. It matches the desktop/web client’s design.

Even though this is a great start, the amount of other issues/bug are getting worse:
1. Clicking a Device Notification (Android/IOS) from a message in a server, sometimes the channel scrolls up then back down to the correct message you wanted to see, which takes a long time. Sometimes it jumps to the message, sometimes is does not.
2. Unread messages not being marked as read, mainly in direct messages... (one of the worst problems)
3. Moving between servers, dms, profile, etc takes a little bit longer to load than before

The mobile app update was so dogshit that I had to revert to an older version of discord in order to comfortably use the app, thank goodness they are actually making some effort to make it better

These changes are gonna make me stop suffering every time i use the app, thank you discord. now i hope they also improve performance cause it's pretty sad that my brand new phone takes almost 2 seconds to switch from dms to servers

3:55 the problem is, if you're typing something big on a small phone and you want to stop typing out the message and look for at something - its impossible because the chatbox covers the whole screen. + i believe on android there is a 4th button near all that mess - delete the whole typed out message, which is really easy to hit

I still miss the search button from the old discord app. Being able to search a server’s name and instantly jump to it was something I did constantly, and was removed in the new app

I noticed the plus icon every time I go to upload an image now. Discord needs to stop messing with people's muscle memory.

I love the swipe to reply feature. I hate that if you do that to your own message it becomes swipe to edit, unless you only half swipe on your own message. Oh and if you start editing your own message, anything you had typed gets completely cleared.

I love how “fixing the app” is just reverting the changes. Nevertheless I’m glad they’re doing as such, I’m tired of using the browser version of discord on my phone

As someone with small hands, I liked the messages button being moved to the bottom of the screen. It makes it easier to use the app while holding the phone with one hand.
